Get Your Own Free Copy of It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren in Just Three Days

Yes! In just three days you will be able to download to your Kindle or computer a free e-Book of my new book - It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren! Look what people who have read it are saying about it . . .

Love Rejoices in What is Right & True

When it comes to the truth it is essential for us to both model being people who tell the truth and who require our grandchildren to speak the truth. If a person starts being untruthful, they will not be able to be trusted and lying easily becomes a habit which is difficult to break. Of course we want our grandchildren to be trustworthy and people who speak the truth - always.

Hold to a "zero-tolerance" for lying. Require your grandchildren to always tell the truth, because it is the right thing to do and so you are able to trust them. All of this may seem very obvious, but I know grandparents who laughed about and dismissed their grandchild's lying as just "telling stories". Lying is not just "telling stories"; it is lying. If we truly love our grandchildren we will require them to tell the truth - and we will tell them the truth as well; always.

Love rejoices in what is right and true . . . and so do we.

Put the Tech Away & Focus On Those Who Matter

The other day I heard on the news about a Second Grade teacher in Louisiana and a project she gave her students. She had them write about an item they wished had never been invented and four of her students wrote they hated their parents' phones and wished they had not been invented. These children were not anti-phones for any reason other than because their parents spent more time on their phones than they did talking with them. The teacher posted the children's responses to facebook and it was shared hundreds of thousands of times with teachers from across the country sharing similar stories.

Love Makes Peace & Forgives

There are many "aspects" of love which I want my grandsons to understand - Love is kind, patient, puts others first, etc., but one very important part of love, which is often overlooked, is - Love makes peace and forgives. Whether it involves making peace with and forgiving a sibling, friend or as they grow up their spouse, the truth is love makes peace and forgives.

Sneak Peek at the Chapters in It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren

I will be releasing my book - It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren next week! If you would still like to be on my Launch Team - message me at lyndagcj@gmail.com and I'll send you a copy of the text.

It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren is a book which will help you put together the pieces for handing down the faith to your grandchildren. Here is a sneak peek at the chapters in the book and what Gil Beers had to say about it . . .

Grandmas with Heart has a Pinterest Page

For the past six months we have been posting every day - at least once - to hopefully encourage and equip you to hand down the faith to your grandchildren. Each post includes a meme and all of them - yes all 360+ are on pinterest where you will be able to find and share them - if you should want to do so. You will find them at this link and each day I add new memes from the posts for the day.

Feel free to check them out and share the ones you particularly like . . . as well as share and "like" our Pinterest page if you want to do so.

Love Honors Others & Puts Them First

While I want to focus on love this summer with my grandsons - God's love for us, our love for God and others - with the end of the school year upon us it provides us with a wonderful opportunity for our grandchildren to show love and honor to the people who have been their teachers for the past year. Consider helping them with some of the following ideas . . .

Love is . . . Thankful, Humble & Puts Others First

I want my grandsons to be people who are truly thankful, humble and who put others first, so this summer along with focusing upon how much God loves them, how they are able to love God and others with their all, this grandma will pay attention and notice when the boys show love by doing these things.

Our world often makes it seem like putting yourself and the things you want first is the way to do things, but we know the opposite is true. God wants us to have true joy and it is found, not by envying others, boasting and thinking of ourselves, but by being thankful, humble and putting others first. This is the truth, so I will model these things to my grandsons and will be intentional about helping them learn to live a life of love as well.

Love is thankful, humble & puts others first . . . and so do we.

A Prayer for Those Who Serve in the Military & Their Families

Father God,

As we approach this Memorial Day weekend, we give thanks for those brave men and women who offered the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedoms. “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). We pray we never take their sacrifice, nor our freedoms, for granted.

Take What Matters the Most with Us to Heaven

Oh yes, it matters so much what we do as grandmas (and grandpas and parents, too), because as we invest on purpose in the lives of the ones we love by handing down the faith, the "dividends" will "pay" as they learn to know, love and walk with God. The biggest "bonus" comes when they become the ones who "invest" on purpose and hand down the faith to their own children and grandchildren.

I do not want even one person in my family line to be lost; not even one. I pray for faith to be handed down from me to my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on until Jesus returns. They are who I want to take to Heaven with me! So, I will leave behind the confidence in God and His faithful love and the desire to hand it down to those who come after us.

Oh yes, it matters so very much what we do as grandmas (and grandpas and parents, too)!

Love is . . . Kind

Dictionary.com defines "kind" as; "considerate, helpful, gentle and affectionate". God says Love is kind, so when we help our grandchildren learn to be people who are considerate, helpful, gentle and affectionate, we are helping them learn to show love to others.

This may seem pretty obvious, but it really just takes a quick glance at the evening news or a look at the news on-line - and comments - to see for ourselves there is a lack of kindness all around us. People do not behave in ways which are considerate, helpful gentle and affectionate. Sadly, quite the opposite.

Prayer from Psalms 103:17, 18

Aren't you so thankful to know the same faithful love God has shown you and continues to show you is available for your grandchildren! Consider making this wonderful verse your prayer today -
Dear God, thank You for Your faithful love and righteousness. Please help my children and grandchildren remember, see and experience them today. In the coming week, please help us all remember to keep Your commands and to make wise choices which honor You. Amen

Idea for Summer Fun

This summer I am a very blessed grandma in how my grandsons
will be spending a lot of time at my house - it looks like three days a week while their parents are at work and of course our regular weekend sleepovers - every other Friday and every other Saturday! As I said, I am a very blessed grandma!

So, we are making our yard a place of fun for the summer! The boys and their dad may build a tree house in our enormous maple tree, they will be building an obstacle course in our yard, making a bike trail in our back yard and doing something fun with the hideout in the woods at the back of our yard. Yes, our yard will be a place of fun and activity this summer for sure!

I'm also planning to keep a container of bubbles available for the boys - just for fun as my youngest grandson still enjoys bubbles. I found this recipe on Pinterest and thought I'd share it with you!

What does your summer look like this year?

Rebuild the Foundations

Almost three years ago, in a town not far from where I live, a tornado hit; three churches in this small community were damaged, seriously. One was a church which was 160 years old. The members of this church were understandably quite dismayed and disheartened to see the significant damage to their church. However; their sadness turned to rejoicing when the builders who began the work to rebuild brought them shocking news. As these builders surveyed the damage and began the work, they discovered nothing was holding up the floor of this old church building. The years had taken their toll and unbeknownst to the church members, their church floor was unsupported and about to collapse. The tornado actually saved them.

Love is . . . Patient

I have been writing this week about loving God and others with our all and how doing this changes our lives, and the lives of our grandchildren as well. I shared ideas about how to help our grandchildren believe and understand God loves them and how they are able to love God and others with their all as well.

I am absolutely convinced when we love God and others with our all this world will be a much better place for everyone. So, today and for the next week I'm sharing part of 1 Corinthians 13 with you - what better explanation is there of what love is and looks like.

Love Others With Our All

So far this week we have been thinking about God's great love for us and how we are able to live as people who love God back and help our grandchildren do the same. Today lets think about what it looks like for us - and our grandchildren - to love others.

First of all, I believe it is important for us to be clear; the "others" Jesus is talking about includes everyone. In His account of the Good Samaritan, Jesus said our "neighbor" is anyone in need, not just those in our own small group of friends. Jesus wants us to be people who love all others. Throughout Scripture we see where God told those who followed and loved Him, He wanted them to show His love to the widows, orphans, immigrants and people in need. This is still true today. When we follow His clear direction to love others, this means we love all others. Period.

We need to be people who love. Period. We need to model this for our grandchildren and help them learn to be people who do the same. Period. So, what are some practical ways for us to do this? Consider the following . . .

Lamentations 3:21-23 - A Prayer & A Blessing

Hope, yes we are able to have hope, because God's love, mercy and faithfulness never end! Take time today to notice how God shows these three things to you and tell your grandchildren all about it! Help them learn to watch for how God shows His love, mercy and faithfulness to them as well - so they are able to live with hope.

Consider posting this verse in your home and make it a part of what you pray daily for your children and grandchildren -

Love God with Our All & Help Our Grandchildren Do This As Well

Okay, so we know God loves us; His Word makes this absolutely clear, we just have to believe it. Believing God loves us sets us up for the next step - we love Him back. It is simple, yet essential; we love God like He loves us - with our all.

Someone asked Jesus what the most important thing was for him to do and Jesus said;
Luke 10:27 - “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
This is how we are to love God - with our all. So, lets think about what we as grandmas are able to do to help our grandchildren learn to love God with their all.

Jesus said to love God with all our heart and soul; to me this means God is first - we do not have anyone or anything we love more than we love God. Now this may be difficult for our grandchildren to understand, because how are they able to love someone the most when they are not able to even see Him? But, we are able to help them with this by giving them some simple ways to love God with all their heart and soul. Consider the following ideas . . .

Start at the Beginning - God Loves Us & Our Grandchildren - This is the Truth

This week I'm writing about how to help our grandchildren learn to love God and others with their all. If we love God and others with our all, we will not be people who harm others in any way - by our words or deeds. If we love God and others with our all, we will be active and involved in helping others with our words and deeds. If we love God and others with our all, we will have true joy.

I believe loving God and others with our all is essential, because when we do everything else will fall into place. So, how do we do this and how do we help our grandchildren do this? I believe the first step is for us to understand and fully believe the truth about how God loves us. When we really understand a believe He loves us, how can we not love Him back?

Just look at what the Bible tells us about God's great love for us . . .

Fountain of Youth from Prevention Magazine

The other day Joani Schultz sent me (Lynda) this study -
Grandchildren may contribute to longevity, says a recent study in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior. Researchers found seniors who babysat their grandchildren on a regular basis had a 37% lower risk of dying during the 20-year study period than contemporaries who didn't have or didn't provide care for grandchildren. Experts credit the emotional lift and physical activity of caregiving, along with the sense of purpose it provides. It may also help keep seniors' brains active and alert.
Thank you Joani! Just more reasons to spend time with our grandchildren for sure!

Pray Zephaniah 3:17 for Your Grandchildren & Join My Launch Team

I have many "favorite verses" in the Bible, but one is definitely found in Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God is in your midst bringing victory. He will create calm with His love; He will rejoice over you with singing.
What a picture of God! He is with us, brings victory, His love brings us calm/peace and He sings over us with joy! Share this picture of God with your grandchildren and make this verse your prayer as well!

And, if you would like to join my "launch team" as I prepare to launch my book; It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren - just email me.

Love Does Matter & Makes a Difference

Just a few minutes spent listening to the morning news leaves us with broken hearts; there is so much sorrow, pain and confusion in our country and in our world as well. What do we do? How do we respond? How do we comfort our grandchildren who are growing up in this world? What do we do to help them learn to make wise choices in a world where other children, and adults, make choices which harm themselves and others? Serious and important questions for sure.

Some question if, "thoughts and prayers" make a difference. I believe they do for two reasons - they allow us to enter into the sadness/needs of others by showing we care enough to think about them and pray for them and because God is able to bring comfort and peace when nothing and no one else is able to do so. But, since I believe love requires an action - it has to be and be shown by more than words, we need to act as well.

I do not want to over-simplify a very serious problem, but I do believe the answer is found in Mark 12:30,31 . . .

Faith, Especially When You Can Not See

Make the choice to trust; to have faith, even when it looks like nothing is happening around us. Even when it looks like our prayers are not being answered. We do not know what God is doing to answer our prayers; He has promised to hear, listen to and answer out prayers and we KNOW God ALWAYS keeps His promises!

So, just because we are not able to see what God is doing, still make the choice to trust God! Have faith! Believe your heart and most importantly, God's Word . . . no matter what your eyes tell you.

And model this for your grandchildren, so they will be able to do the same.

Prayer for Redeemed Relationships

Dearest Heavenly Father,

Redeem any brokenness, which prevents me from enjoying a close relationship with my children and grandchildren. Create opportunities for me to spend quality time with them—whether in person, by phone, through letters or via the Internet. Keep me from being judgmental and nagging. If there is any hardness in my heart toward them, please remove it. Please replace it with a heart of flesh, filled with acceptance and love.

Thank you, Lord.
Amen.

A Unique & Meaningful Opportunity to Hand Down the Faith - Bibles for Your Grandchildren

My oldest grandson is approaching a "milestone" in his life; he will be leaving the Children's Ministry at our church and entering the Student/Middle School Ministry. A big moment for sure!

As I thought about this the other day, I realized he has a Children's Bible. An actual Bible, yes, but a Bible designed for children with illustrations on the covers and features inside to help children read and understand the Bible. I especially like two of the Children's Bibles he has - the Investigator's Bible and the Children's Quest Bible, but they are Bibles for children and what new Middle Schooler wants to bring a Children's Bible to church with them?

So, I found some Bibles for teens and Zondervan kindly sent them to me for review - today I'm very happy to let you know about them.

Help Your Grandchildren Learn With Science & the Bible

My grandsons enjoy science projects, so I try to find and plan opportunities for us to work on them from time to time. But, we do not do this just for the opportunity to learn whatever science lessons may be attached with the projects, but to also make connections to their own walk with God.

We are currently working on the old food coloring and carnations project. It is quite simple - put food coloring with the water in a vase of cut carnations, then wait - possibly as long as a day - to see what happens. My grandsons put blue food coloring in the water and I asked them to predict what they think will happen. At first they thought the food coloring would kill the flowers, but then they thought the food coloring would make the flowers turn blue.

I told them we will find out, but along with thinking about what might happen with flowers surrounded by blue food coloring in the water, I also wanted them to think about something else. What happens when they are surrounded with friends who love Jesus, or friends who do not? What happens if they surround their mind and how they think with God's Word, or they do not? What happens if they are people who pray and go to church, or not? I told them I didn't want them to answer these questions yet; just think about them.

The Five Most Important Things on My Grandparent's "To-Do List" - #2 - Pray for My Grandchildren

When it comes to my Top Five To-Do List of things I do with my grandsons, three of these things are "no-brainers": listen to them, have fun with them and tell them I love them. All important things. All essential things. But the top two things on my list are the most important. These are the things I must not fail to do. So, today I'm sharing the #2 most important thing on my top Five Things on My Grandparents' To-Do List . . .

Leave a Powerful Example

Definitely point your grandchildren in God's Way by the words you use, but remember, the strongest and most powerful way you do this is by the example you leave. Live so when you are gone, your grandchildren remember you loved God with your all, you loved them with your all and they want to live in the same way.

The Five Most Important Things on My Grandparent's "To-Do List" - #4 - Smile, Laugh, Play & Be Generous with Love

As grandparents we obviously all know there are things we do and say because we are grandparents which we would not do or say if we were not grandparents. Yesterday I shared with you the #5 thing on my "Grandparents To-Do List . . . Listen to Them". Today I'm happy to share with you the #4 thing on my list . . .

God's Word Will Do What He Has Planned

Yes! God's Word will accomplish what He planned for it to accomplish; and we know He gave us His Word, so we will know Him. Be encouraged; if your children/grandchildren are not walking with God, this promise from God is for them, too! Spend time today reading God's Word and share with them this week how it is powerful in your life.

And, make it part of your prayers for them to see and experience how God's Word is real and powerful in their lives, too!

If you have grandchildren, you obviously are a grandparent. As grandparents there are things we do simply because we are grandparents; things we may not do otherwise.

Happy Mother's Day! We grandmas were mothers first, so this is a great day to especially remember God's blessing of your family and take time to thank God for them and pray for them to be people who love, know, seek and follow Him.

Thank you for all you do to care for, show love to and to live as someone who seeks God, lives righteously, shows wisdom and grace to all those with whom God has blessed you.

Just for Fun - Mother's Day Trivia

Mother's Day is tomorrow, so I thought it would be fun to look at some Mother's Day trivia I found on-line. Did you know . . .

  • In Britain, during the Middle Ages, it was customary for the wealthy to give servants the day off on Mothering Sunday (the fourth Sunday of Lent), so they would be able to visit their mothers, who often lived far away.
  • In Serbia, Mother’s Day is called Materice and is celebrated on the second Sunday before Christmas. Children sneak into their mother’s bedroom and gently tie her feet with ribbon or string. To negotiate her release, the mother gives her children small gifts. (Not much in it for Mom, but she does get to lie down for a bit.)
I also found the following Mother's Day trivia . . .

Please Join My Launch Team
