Make This a Summer to Notice, Remember & Record

Life is unpredictable. We do not know what is around the next "corner", but we are able to look back with 20/20 vision! This summer "grandma" on purpose and help your grandchildren - no matter their age or location - learn to keep track of what is behind them and learn to "exercise" their 20/20 vision!

Give your grandchildren their own notebooks/journals - and get one for yourself as well. In preparation for this activity, spend some time writing in your journal about how God has showed His wisdom and goodness to you over your lifetime, so you are able to trace His hand and trust His heart.

Make time to give your grandchildren their journals - if they live far, mail the journals and arrange for a phone call or facetime call with them when they open the package. Share from your own journal about times when God has been faithful to you and encourage them to write about a way God has shown His hand and they have been able to trust His heart - or draw if they are too young to write (be sure to have them describe their drawings and write a few words so in years to come everyone will know what they drew!)

Over the Summer, watch for more times they could enter in their journals to help them learn to watch for this as well. Continue to do this. Can you imagine what it will be like for them as they grow up to be able to look back through their notebook/journals and remember how God has been faithful to them in the past! 

In the Old Testament we read over and over again how God's people forgot and did not tell their children and grandchildren how God showed His hand and heart in their lives. This resulted in future generations who did not know God. These journals are something you are able to do to help your grandchildren remember - and are something even generations not yet born may be able to read one day to remember how our real and loving God showed His hand and heart in the lives of their family!

So, consider making this Summer a time to notice, remember and record how our very real and most loving God shows His hand and His heart in our lives!
