You are likely a grandma who knows, loves and follows God and you may have grown children and grandchildren who do the same. If they are, be thankful and rejoice, but do not think your job is over. All it takes is being hurt by one person they respect, a difficult time in their life or friends who do not follow God for them to turn away from following God. As I wrote yesterday, your job is to pray and when it looks like your prayers are being answered, your job is to continue to pray, because you have much to pray about. But, you may have grown children and grandchildren who are not following God; clearly you have much to pray about as well.
Today I want to write about another thing you are able to do as you fulfill the job God has given to you to hand down the faith - you need to watch for God's faithfulness, remember and tell your children and grandchildren, so they will know and remember as well.
Look at these verses from Judges 2:7, 10, 11, 17b . . .
The people served the throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the had done for Israel . . . They quickly turned from the ways of their ancestors, who had been obedient to the ’s commands. Those who see all the great things God does for them, do tend to follow Him, but if those who see what God does for them do not tell the following generations, they will not know and remember. This leaves them in a place where they turn away from God and do not make the choice to know, love and follow Him.
Now, certainly there are times where the parents/grandparents are faithful to tell all God has done for them and adult children/grandchildren still make the choice to turn away, but clearly it is our job to watch for the ways God shows Himself to be faithful, to remember what he has done and to be faithful to tell those we love, so they know God. Look at Psalms 78:4-8a . . .
so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.God wants us to watch for His faithfulness (He is faithful all the time, so if we watch, we will find it!) and then remember how He has been faithful and tell our children and grandchildren, so they will know all God has done and then . . . "tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands."
Do not think what you do does not matter, the opposite is the truth. It matters what you do. It matters for you to pray faithfully for your children and grandchildren. It matters for you to watch for God's faithfulness, remember and tell your children and grandchildren. This is God's plan for how faith is handed down from one generation to the next and you, yes you are a big part of God's plan!
Tell and document how God shows His faithfulness to you and be sure to tell - it IS your job!
