A Grandparent's Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Send your Holy Spirit to fall afresh on us, and show us how to pray effectively for our grandchildren.
Refine our prayers like silver in a crucible. Remove the impurities, such as our pride, self-imposed will and propensity to tell You how to fix things according to our plans. Remove our lofty sentences and empty words.

Help us pray with our “minds set on things that are above, not on things that are on earth" (Colossians 3:2). Help us reveal the honest condition of our hearts; help us to pray “in spirit and truth” (John 4:23).

Remind us when we don’t know how to pray for our grandchildren and their parents, we have nothing to fear. “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words” (Romans 8:26).

Thank you for your Holy Spirit who bears the testimony of Christ within us and who nudges us gently, reminding us to pray.

Amen.
