Two Kinds of Grandparents - Your Grandchildren Need You

While a grandparent is a grandparent no matter where they live, there are two kinds of grandparents. There are the grandparents who have a strong family team which is focused upon handing down the faith to the children they love, and they are part of this team. Their team is comprised of the parents and grandparents - the first and second most influential people in the lives of their grandchildren - the people who love their grandchildren the most. The team members are intentional about sharing their faith history, prayer history and how God and His Word are completely trustworthy; they are focused upon handing down the faith to the children they love and they do it together, as a strong team.

There are also grandparents who do not have this "team" to hand down the faith with them. Grandparents who are the ones who share the faith history, prayer history and how God and His Word are completely trustworthy. Grandparents who are the ones who take the children to church - and if they do not, the children will not go, because there is no one else who will take them. Grandparents who are focused upon handing down the faith to the children they love, but they do it alone.

If you are a grandparent who is part of a strong team of parents and grandparents working together to hand down the faith, be very thankful. This team is a gift to your grandchildren and to each person on this team. But, do not relax your focus upon handing down the faith, because you know there are others who are handing down the faith. What you do matters - your grandchildren need you to be faithful about handing down the faith.

If you are a grandparent who is not part of a strong team of parents and grandparents working together to hand down the faith, take heart. It may feel like you are alone. You may be tired. But what you do matters - your grandchildren need you to be faithful about handing down the faith. Consider building a "team" to help you - ask friends to join with you in praying for your grandchildren. And, remember, God has promised where two of you are gathered together to pray, He is with you and will hear and answer!

So whether you are a grandparent who is part of a strong team or not, claim the perfect peace God offers by making the choice to trust Him.
