Prayer for the Residents of California

If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.” (Daniel 3:17).

Heavenly Father,

Today, we pray for the residents of California. Raging wildfires, fueled by strong winds and low humidity, have swept across their land, claiming countless lives. Hundreds of residents are still missing. The fires have scorched hundreds of thousands of acres, destroying homes and churches, businesses and schools. While some of the fires are contained, others continue to blaze like seething infernos.

We pray for You to douse these wildfires, quenching their flames. Please deliver the residents of California and the brave firefighters in the same way, You delivered Meshack, Shadrack and Abednego from Babylon’s fiery furnaces.

We pray You will comfort those who mourn, especially the families who lost loved ones and the evacuees who return to homes and businesses, which may or may not be there. Let them turn to You for strength and courage as they rebuild their lives. Let Your Presence tangibly and undeniably “wipe the tears from their faces.” (Isaiah 25:8).

Humbly, we seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways. We pray
You will hear our prayer, forgive our sins and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

In Jesus’ Name, we pray.
Amen.
