You will need . . .
- Balloons - two per grandchild
- Bamboo skewers - one per grandchild
- Cooking oil
Show them how to oil their skewer and then how you are able to put your skewer through your balloon without popping it. (You will be able to see the project at this link.) After you amaze them by not popping your balloon, show them how to do it and let them put their skewer through their own balloon . . . and then their extra balloon as they are likely to want to do it again!
After everyone has had fun not popping their balloons, set the balloons and skewers aside and talk with them about how it sounded like an impossible thing for you and them to be able to put a skewer through a balloon without popping it. But by putting the skewer through the thicker areas by the knot and at the top of the balloon, they were able to do this project.
Talk about how when they trust God, even in and especially in the difficult and seemingly impossible situations in their own lives, they will experience how God's presence and power will keep them from "popping", too.
Share with them how God has kept you from "popping" throughout your life and give them the opportunity to share how He has done this for them as well. Then spend time thanking God together for His love and care for you all.
