Hand Down the Faith with Mystery Bags - Stick with God

When I think about the word, "faithful", I think about God; He is ALWAYS faithful. Just look at these wonderful verses which tell us about God's amazing faithfulness . . .

  • Psalm 36:5, 6 - Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heaves, Your faithfulness is like the mighty mountains, Your justice like the great deep. O LORD, You preserve both man and beast.
  • Psalm 100:4,5 - Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.
  • Lamentations 3:22-24 - Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him."
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:24 - Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
These are just a few of the many verses which talk to us about the incredible faithfulness of God! When I talk with my grandchildren about faithfulness, I tell them being faithful means you keep on doing what you said you will do. God has promised to love us and He is faithful, because He continues to love us!

Being "faithful" also means "sticking with", so this is where I have an awesome Mystery Bag - science project/object lesson you may do with your grandchildren to help them better understand what it means to be faithful and to "stick with" God! Just check this link for the specifics of this amazing project where you are able to turn a cup of water upside down and keep the water inside! Your grandchildren absolutely WILL remember this!

You will need . . .
  • Paper lunch bag - one per child
  • Plastic cup - one per child
  • Index card - one per child
  • Water - enough to mostly fill all cups and the jar
  • Bowl - to hold water
  • Paper towels
  • Jar with a screen over the top (easy to make with a canning jar, and a bit of screen
Put a cup and index card in each bag and have the other items handy for you to use as you do this project with your grandchildren. Watch the video from the link above, so you know how this project works and practice it before you do it with your grandchildren.

Walk your grandchildren through the project and then talk about how the water "stuck" together and to the index card. Then talk about how God always "sticks" with them, because He is faithful. Take time to read the verses above, share how God has shown His faithfulness to you and spend time thanking God for His great faithfulness.
