Do Not Be Afraid; Stand Firm & Be Still

Do not be afraid; stand firm and be still. Easy to write; not so easy to do . . . especially when you are experiencing something difficult or frightening. However; just because something is not easy to do, it does not mean we are not able to do it.

God delivered His people from where they were slaves in Egypt and sent them on their way towards a land where they would be free; free to live, free to work and free to worship Him. I find it so interesting to read Exodus 13:17-22 -

When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said; "If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt." So, God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.
Just look at how God showed He is trustworthy: He did not take the people on the "short-cut", because they were not soldiers; they were slaves. They were not ready to face the Philistines who were soldiers. God knew the longer way was the way which protected them. How often does God take me on a "longer way", because He knows the longer way will protect me? My "longer way" is MS and looking back I am able to see so clearly how God has used it to protect me. God is so good!

This passage shows another way God showed He is trustworthy: the pillars of cloud and fire did not leave their place in front of the people. Just imagine! For all the years they traveled and wandered, God stayed with them in a way they were able to physically see; day and night. While I have not been able to see an actual cloud or fire, when I am able to see how He is so clearly with me; always!

I LOVE Exodus 14:13, 14 -
Do not be afraid Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.
"Do not be afraid"; it is so easy to be afraid Afraid of situations. Afraid of circumstances. Afraid of what might happen. "Stand firm"; this is difficult to do. We question. We doubt. We waver. "Be still"; this is the opposite of what we want to do. We think we need to do something. Fix it. Make things better. But, because we absolutely are able to trust God, we are able to choose to do what Moses did and, do not fear, stand firm and be still.

When we make this choice, we will find ourselves praising God like the Israelites did in Exodus 15. Look at verse 2 -
The LORD is my strength and my defense, He has become my salvation. He is my God and I will praise Him, my father's God and I will exalt Him.
While we are not going to find ourselves trapped by the Egyptian army on one side and the Red Sea on the other, we do have situations in our lives which leave us feeling afraid, unsteady and trying to find a way to fix things. I have experienced those situations; we all do. But, we are able to make the choice Moses made and choose to trust God. When we do, we will experience His peace and joy; because His is our strength, defense, salvation and God and we will praise and exalt Him.

Look for how God shows you He is trustworthy and spend time praising and exalting Him this week.
