"Keep a Firm Grip on the Faith"

The Bible presents Satan as a "roaring lion" and says he is looking for people to "devour" in 1 Peter 5:8. This sounds frightening; and if we look at the world around us it is easy to see how he is doing this with so many.

However; this verse does not tell us to run ad hide under our beds. No! It tells us to be clearheaded, alert, watchful, on our guard. The following verses say it this way in the Phillips translation . . .
Resist him, standing firm in your faith and . . . God himself (from whom we receive all grace and who has called you to share his eternal splendour through Christ) will make you whole and secure and strong. All power is his for ever and ever.
And this way in the Message . . .
Keep your guard up . . . keep a firm grip on the faith. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.
I do not know about you, but I find these verses very encouraging!

Take time today to thank God for the great plans He has for us and for how He will help us be "put together and on our feet for good." And, take heart - the message in these verses are for our children and grandchildren as well. Pray for them and model what it looks like to "keep a firm grip on the faith" . . . this is what handing down the faith is all about.
