Wake Up, Relinquish, Trust, Remember, Tell & Love

I don't know about you, but there are certainly times when I find the "relinquishing the lives of loved ones" to be a difficult thing. I do trust God, but when I do not see what He is doing, or He seems silent, it honestly is more challenging to trust and relinquish.

I know God loves me and the ones I love and I do believe He has a clear and eternal purpose for us; but, when I do not understand what is happening, it is difficult to hold on to these beliefs.

If these times are challenging for us, just imagine what it is like for our children and grandchildren. They have not lived as long as we have and may not have a history in their own lives where they are able to point to instances when God showed His faithfulness to them. When it seems like their prayers go unanswered or life just becomes confusing, they may choose to turn away from the faith they once knew.

Yesterday Joani Schultz (one of our Grandmas with Heart) posted to the Group blog about the new statistics which show people are not going to church as they once did. She wrote; "For the first time in our history, the number of Americans reporting 'no religion' (23.1%) crept ever so slightly above Catholics (23%) and evangelicals (22.5%). Plus, the percentage of Americans who say they belong to a church, synagogue, or mosque has fallen to half the population (50%). The lowest ever in our country." (Please take a minute to read what she wrote at this link, especially the wonderful ideas she gave for what we are able to do about this.)

As Joani says, we need to, "wake up and put love in action." We also need to remember God and His great deeds in the times when we do not understand what is happening around us or when we do not see what God is up to in our lives and the lives of the ones we love. We need to remember. We also need to tell our grandchildren and help them remember the times God "showed up" in the past for them. Judges 2 shows what happens when we do not remember and tell - the next generations do not remember or know God and they turn away from Him. Clearly this is what is happening in our country as well.

Keep your grandchildren's and children's hearts and minds in your prayers . . . and your own as well.
