Hand Down the Faith with Mystery Bags - Do Good to All People

It is June, which here in Michigan means, strawberries! If you have strawberry plants of your own, or a farm with a strawberry patch nearby, or even a favorite grocery store or farmer's market, you will be ready for a fun . . . and tasty Mystery Bag!

You will need . . .
  • Paper lunch bags
  • A "ticket" inviting your grandchildren to go get/pick berries with you.
  • A favorite recipe - and supplies for the recipe.
Gather your grandchildren and give them their Mystery Bag. Take them to pick/get strawberries and then work together to make your favorite recipe . . . here is a recipe for flaky biscuits, perfect for shortcake - you will just need to cut/chop your berries and add a bit of sugar and you will be ready to enjoy a wonderful, tasty treat.

While you work on this Mystery Bag project with your grandchildren, talk about how thankful we are for the blessings of God's creation. He did not have to create strawberries, but are we not so glad He did! Share Galatians 6:9, 10 with your grandchildren and ask them how they might be able to, "do good to all people".  Consider making extra biscuits and preparing extra strawberries and then share them with a neighbor.

Ingredients -
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
Directions -
  • Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon and salt
  • Cut in butter until mixture resembles course crumbs
  • Beat egg with milk and stir into dry ingredients until just moistened
  • Turn onto a well-floured surface and knead 20 times, folding dough over on itself, flattening and folding again and again - very important!!! Don't skip this step!!!!
  • Roll/press to 3/4 inch and cut with biscuit cutter . . . or as I do, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter for heart biscuits!
  • Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake at 450 for 8-10 minutes
