Attitudes Matter

As grandmas - and grandpas /parents, too - we know teaching the children we love is an important part of our job as grandparent and parent. We teach them many things . . . how to walk, talk, eat, the all-important-potty-training, how to get along, share, read, write, math, and the list goes on and on.

If we are intentional Christian grandparents/parents, we are purposeful about teaching the children we love about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, using our gifts/talents to serve God and others and why we go to church. These are all important things for us to teach and we do this teaching during planned times as well as by taking opportunity of unplanned times as well.

But, whether planned or not, it is essential we are focused upon the ways we teach without words - by our attitudes. The old saying; "More is 'caught' than 'taught'" is absolutely true when it comes to attitudes. Yes, there are many important things for us to teach with our words to the children we love, but we also have to be focused upon teaching them how to have positive attitudes, and this is done by us modeling a positive attitude to them.

Our Grandma with Heart, Deb Del Villar is right; it really does makes a difference how you approach teaching . . . kids catch your attitude. You can not fool them.
