Pray, Speak the Truth & Show Compassion

It only takes a couple minutes of listening to the evening news to know the world in which our loved grandchildren are growing up is significantly different than it was when we were growing up. Those minutes of the evening news give us an idea of what it may have been like for Noah in the world in which he lived.

I know someone who just learned a friend of their young First Grade grandson is not really a boy. This child is a girl who wants to be called he, him, boy and by the name of a boy; even though the child is a girl. This never happened when we were in First Grade - or any grade. How does my friend help her grandson understand the truth when around him the majority of the day for the majority of the week for the majority of the time for the next, who knows how many years the adults around him - at least some of them at school - are going to refer to his friend as a boy?

I believe there are a couple things to keep in mind. First of all the truth is the truth, but Jesus always spoke the truth in love. My friend is lovingly helping her grandson know the truth - he and his friend, as Josh McDowell said; "are created in the image of God and have infinite value, dignity and worth." And, God knew what He was doing when He created them both; God did NOT make any mistakes.

Compassion must be shown to this little girl - she is just a little child and must be so confused. Apparently the adults around her are not helping her find the infinite value, dignity and worth with which she was born. Perhaps my friend's grandson will be used of God to help her see herself as God does.

And, for us, pray like never before; surround your grandchildren with prayer. Know the truth - this is the world in which our grandchildren are growing up. They are being faced with this at even younger ages than ever before. You can NOT put off having conversations with them in which you help them know God created them in His image with infinite value, dignity and worth and He knew what He was doing when He created them to be the girls or boys they are. Tell them the truth. Model loving others with grace and compassion for those who are confused - in particular the children.

My friend never expected her young grandchild to be exposed to this confusion - especially at such a young age. We need to open our eyes and be grandmas (grandpas/parents) who are not blown away (even though our hearts break for the children impacted by this), but who are prepared, prayer warriors who gently and confidently share the truth with the ones we love.
