What is "Faithful"?

God is faithful. We know this. We tell our grandchildren God is faithful, but do they understand what this means? Do we? defines "faithful" as . . .
  1. strict or thorough in the   performance of duty: a faithful worker.
  2. true to one's word, promises, vows, etc.
  3. steady in allegiance or    affection; loyal; constant:
  4. reliable, trusted, or believed.
  5. adhering or true to fact, a   standard, or an original
So, when we talk about God being faithful, we are saying He is true to His word, keeps His promises, is loyal, trusted, able to be believed, sticks to the truth and does not give up. He does what He says He will do.

We, and our grandchildren, are able to be encouraged and find hope when we understand God is faithful, so to help them understand this better, try some of the following activities with them . . .
  1.  Play a game where you race to find out who is able to fill a bowl with water - using just a spoon to move water from one place to another. It will take some time, but encourage them to not give up - to be faithful.
  2. Play a game where you ask each other to do silly things, have the person doing the silly thing, promise to do it, before they try and then encourage them to not give up. Try some of those fun one-minute games. (You will find some at this link)
  3. Take time to write - or draw a picture - sharing something you love about members of your family - encourage each other by sharing what you wrote/drew.
  4. Look up old laws - silly laws (try this link) and then talk about how while some of them sound unbelievable, they are the law. Talk about how we do things to show we are able to be trusted/believed.
  5. Make a poster about things we know to be true about God - use words/drawings (even stick figures) and hang it where you will see it to remember God is faithful.
These are just a few ideas of how you are able to help your grandchildren better understand what it means to be faithful and how God is faithful.
