God's Good Plans For Us, Too
I have truly been blessed with three fantastic boys for my grandsons. I love everything about being their grandma, especially when it comes to handing down the faith. It does not have to be overwhelming to hand down the faith. It does not have to be confusing to hand down the faith. It does not have to be too hard to hand down the faith. Handing down the faith is what I do in the planned times - such as focused times to read God's Word and pray together or go on a nature walk together to worship God for His amazing creation, or when I tell them about a "why" we are able to believe . . . such as how God created Okapi with infrasonic calls or the Carrier Crab and Fire Urchin or about irreducibly complex systems.
But, handing down the faith is also what happens in the everyday happenings of life. When we tell and show our love for them - we are building our relationship and our ability to point our grandsons to God's even greater love for them. When we share how God has answered prayer or a favorite Bible verse, we are handing down the faith. When we go to church, and especially if we are serving at our church as a volunteer, we are handing down the faith.
When we show interest in how our grandchildren are growing up - as they learn new things, try new things, discover their interests and gifts and begin to focus in on what they may want to do with their lives, we are able to share with them how they are able to know God loves them and He has a plan for their lives which is for their good, which will not harm them, but will give them hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.) This is handing down the faith.
The planned and the every day - handing down the faith does not have to be difficult. It is something we are able to do when our sons/daughters also hand down the faith - and when they do not. We do not have to be intimidated by the idea of handing down the faith. It is just part of living these final years of our lives and we are absolutely able to know it is part of God's good plans for us, too! Yes! Handing down the faith is absolutely part of God's good plans for us. It is something we are able to do.
