But, it is important for us to understand there are other people in the lives of our grandchildren who also are able to influence them; people we want to have a part in influencing our grandchildren. I am writing about leaders and teachers at church. It absolutely is the job - and joy - of grandparents and parents to hand down the faith to the children we love; not the job of the church. But, the church does have a job and a part in influencing our grandchildren. As grandparents, we need our church to do the following . . .
- Provide trustworthy adults who are able to reinforce and hold up the truth we teach our grandchildren about Who God is and how they are able to walk with Him.
- Provide trustworthy adults who are able to be another voice from people our grandchildren know and respect who tell them the things we are telling them.
- Provide trustworthy adults who are able to get to know our grandchildren - and who they are able to know as well. This matters quite a bit when our grandchildren are in middle and high school.
- Provide the opportunity for our grandchildren to make solid Christian friends. These other children/teens their age have the potential to influence our grandchildren in significant ways - and our grandchildren have the opportunity to influence them in the same ways.
