Believe the Truth

In many ways we grandparents are the same, no matter who or where we are; there are also ways we are not the same. Some of us may live near our grandchildren; some may not. Some of us may have strong, healthy relationships with our grown children and grandchildren; some may not. Some of us may have grown children and grandchildren who love, know and walk with God; some may not. Some of us may know how to hand down the faith; some may not. Some of us may be committed prayer warriors; some may not.

While we are not the same in some things; when it comes to the things which matter the most, we grandparents are the same; we love our grown children and our grandchildren and want them to love, know and walk with God.

I could write about many ways to hand down the faith - whether you live near or far, have older or younger grandchildren, are comfortable with handing down the faith or feel at a loss as to what to do and when to do it, but this post is about something which we are all able to do - pray. I'm certain many of your are committed prayer warriors who would be able to teach me much when it comes to prayer, but I'm also certain there are those of you who struggle with prayer . . . how do I pray? When do I pray? What do I pray about? So, today I just want to encourage you to take a look at Matthew 6:9-13, because Jesus' disciples wondered these same things. They asked Jesus to teach them to pray, and thankfully, we have the words Jesus used to teach His disciples to pray and are able to use the to teach us to pray as well.

Pray these words back to God and personalize them; thank God for His blessings (be specific), ask for forgiveness (again, be specific) and ask Him for help with the ones you love (once again, be specific). As Jesus said; God is your Father and you are able to talk to Him about the things which weigh on your heart. If it matters to you, it matters to Him. If you want to talk with Him about someone you love; He wants to hear it, because He loves them, too.

I love this quote from Billy Graham - "We can change the course of events if we go to our knees in believing prayer." Believe the truth about God - He is your Father, He loves you, He loves the ones you love, He listens to your prayers, He answers your prayers - and talk to Him.
