Prayer for a Fresh Start
We pray for You to forgive us, for we have become a nation of idols. We’ve polluted our lives with carved images and false gods. We’ve set our sights on the things of this world and not on You.
We’ve placed our confidence and trust in stocks and bonds; and we’ve sought the fleeting happiness, which money buys. We’ve defined ourselves by our possessions and not as children of the Living God.
We’ve become enamored and ensnared by celebrities, worshiping the power and prestige they seemingly represent. Tragically, we’ve taught our children and grandchildren to do the same.
Thank You for having mercy on us, O God, according to Your unfailing love. Thank You for blotting out our transgressions, according to Your great compassion. Thank You for washing away all our iniquity and cleansing us from our sin (Psalm 51:1-2, paraphrased).
Thank You for giving us a fresh start.
In Christ’s Name, we pray.
