Teach, Tell & Show the Important Messages

There are many important messages we as grandparents need to teach and tell to our grandchildren. Some are basic - be kind, don't play with fire, pay attention in school, share with others, obey your parents (and grandparents), and of course the list goes on with these basic, important messages.

Then there are the important messages we as grandparents need to teach and tell to our grandchildren in regards to handing down the faith, such as . . .
  • God is real.
  • God loves you.
  • You are able to know, love and walk with God.
  • The Bible is true.
  • Knowing God and learning the Bible is exciting - because they are NOT boring.
  • You are able to believe in God and trust the Bible with confidence.
  • Jesus really was born as a baby on this Earth - this is why we celebrate Christmas.
  • Jesus really did die on the cross and rise again in three days - this is why we celebrate Resurrection Sunday.
  • God hears, listens to and answers our prayers.
  • You are able to read and understand and enjoy the Bible.
And, of course, this list has many more things we may add in regards to the things we want our grandchildren to know.

These basic things and things related to handing down the faith are all important things for us to teach, tell and show our grandchildren, but so is teaching, telling and showing them how very much we love them. Gary Smalley is right; "Children desperately need to know - and to hear in ways they understand and remember - how they are loved and valued" by their parents and grandparents. It matters so much for us as grandmas (and grandpas and parents) to teach, tell and show our grandchildren how very much we love and value them. We need to teach and tell them God knew what He was doing when He created them and He did not make any mistakes. We need to tell and show them we love them all of the time - when they obey and cooperate, and when they do not. All of the time. We need to do these things, because our grandchildren will be able to grow up more confident and secure when they know, understand and remember how very much we love them and when they know, understand and remember they are lovable.

But, we also need to love them unconditionally and faithfully to point them to the One Who loves them the most in a perfect unconditional and faithful way; our love for them points them to God's love for them. So, teach, tell and show your children and grandchildren how much you love them. Teach, tell and show them again . . . and again. Teach, tell and show your children and grandchildren how much you love them. Teach, tell and show them again . . . and again. It matters and does make a difference.
