Be "That" Grandma (Grandpa/Parent)

As our grandchildren grow up we certainly want to give them as many happy things and festivals to be enjoyed as possible. We want to help them make lasting memories which will build our relationship with them and point them to God. Christmastime is one of these times when we think about these happy things and festivals - our family traditions and often celebrate in ways unique to Christmas.

Think for a minute about the special ways, the happy things and festivals you observe related to Christmas. Which of them are things you did when you were a child, carried forward with your own children and now enjoy with your grandchildren? Which of these things are relatively new traditions which you started with your own children and now enjoy with your grandchildren? Which of them are things you have just started with your grandchildren? These traditions; these happy things, festivals and traditions are things your children/grandchildren may very well continue with the children God gives to them.

These happy things, festivals and traditions are great things - they do build relationships and connections to generations past. Use them to talk with your grandchildren/children about why you continue to do these things. Tell them about their ancestors - give them a deeper connection beyond the fun of the thing you are doing together. Connect them to their walk with God - are they sharing with others in need? Are they remembering the Christmas account? Are they talking about the many ways God has blessed them in the past year?

Absolutely plan happy things, festivals and traditions to observe at Christmas and all year. God gave us life and He wants it to be a joyful life, so be "that" grandma (grandpa/parent) who lives life with enthusiasm and joy and who is intentional about handing down this view of life as a happy thing and festival to be enjoyed!
