Give the Best Gifts Ever - Give a Love Which is Shown by How You Talk to & Treat the Children You Love

One of the fun parts of Christmas is selecting gifts for the children you love which you know they will enjoy. After all, we grandmas do tend to love to give gifts to our grandchildren!

God, our Heavenly Father, is the very best when it comes to giving the most amazing gifts. He gave us His Son, Jesus (John 3:16) and He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit and His fruit in our lives (Galatians 5:22, 23). Oh yes, God gives the very best gifts!

Of all the "perfect" gifts we may give our grandchildren, when we live as people who show the Fruit of the Spirit, we are able to give the ones we love nine gifts which are absolutely the best gifts we grandmas (and grandpas and parents, too) will ever give to them. They are listed in Galatians 5:22, 23 -
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
These verses talk about the Fruit of the Spirit - when we know, love and walk with God, we will show - or at least should show - these things in our day-in-day-out lives. They all combine to be the Fruit of the Spirit, but if we look at these nine things individually, we will clearly see how they are the best things we will ever give to the people we love. So today . . . and for the next eight days . . . I thought we would take a closer look at what it means to give these things, these best gifts ever, to the children we love.

Let's start today with love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 tell us what love looks like - look at just a few of the ways these verses describe love . . .
Love is patient, love is kind, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love always protects. Love never fails.
When we love someone, truly love them, we will show it by the way we behave. We will be patient and kind, we won't be angry people, we will protect and never give up. Why wouldn't we want to love our grandchildren and children like this?

Life may become busy, even hectic, confusing and difficult at times, but no matter what is happening around us, we need to give the children we love a love which is more than just words. We need to give them a love which is shown by how we talk to and treat them. This love is the best gift we will ever give our grandchildren and children and it is essential.

For the children we love to grow up with a healthy view of life and themselves, they need to know the people who are supposed to care for them, truly love them. They need to know this, because they hear, see and experience it in the way the people who care for them treat them with love. This is what these verses are talking about - love is real. It is something we show by the way we talk to and treat others.

If you only give your grandchildren and children one gift this Christmas, make it a love which shows itself by the way you treat them. Show it by how you speak to them and the way you physically treat them. This is the best gift you will ever give, the gift they will never forget and the gift they want the most. Give real love.
