Give the Best Gifts - Give a Home Characterized by Joy

Joy is another of those words which we tend to think about more this time of year, but do we really know what joy is? Dictionary.com defines it as:
  • the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation.
  • a source or cause of keen pleasure or delight; something someone greatly valued or appreciated
  • the expression or display of glad feelings.
These may be the things we think of when we think about joy. It is different than being happy - which depends on circumstances. Joy is more. Joy is "exceptionally good/satisfying" and "greatly valued/appreciated", but the Bible gives us an even clearer view of joy.
  • In Galatians 5:22 we see it is part of the fruit of the Spirit - something we experience and are able to show in our life as we walk with God.
  • Romans 15:13 tells us it is a gift from God.
  • John 16:24 shows us as we walk with God, become people who talk with Him, we will have an increasing joy.
These are just three of the things the Bible has to say about joy, but basically, we experience joy as we walk with God. So, if we want to give a "best gift" to the children we love, when we choose to know, love and walk with God, we will find we are also able to live in a way which shows joy - and spreads it on those around us.

Last Summer my grandsons and I (Lynda Freeman) were talking about joy when my oldest grandson told me when he thought about joy, he thought about me. My other grandsons both agreed. They said the character by the name of "Joy" in the Disney movie, Inside Out, reminded them of me. I am so happy my grandsons are able to see joy in me. I want them to know they are able to experience joy from God, too, and encourage them to grow in their walk with God!

Give the best gifts this year - give joy to the children you love by first of all experiencing God's joy for you and then by living in a way they are able to see it  - and want it for themselves!
