Teach the Most by What You Are

As grandmas (and grandpas/ parents) who are serious about handing down the faith to the generations who follow us, we know we need to tell them many things. We need to tell them how they are able to believe God is real and we need to tell them why they are able to trust the Bible with confidence. We need to tell them the many ways God has shown Himself to be faithful to us in the past and we need to tell them how He is working in our lives today. We need to tell our children and grandchildren many things when it comes to handing down the faith.

But, as essential as telling them is, showing them is a more powerful and effective way for us to hand down the faith. When we show by the way we live what it looks like to believe in God and trust His Word, the ones we love will notice. When we show how a life is changed by the way God shows His faithful love and grace, the ones we love will notice. When we show how we make the choices to read God's Word, talk with God, be involved in a solid church, use our gifts, talents and abilities to serve and help others, the ones we love will notice. When we live in such a way as to show the Fruit of the Spirit in our own lives, the ones we love will notice.

So, yes, absolutely tell and teach the ones you love what faith in God is all about, but be particularly focused upon living in such a way as to show it - we do teach the most by what we are.
