Be the Wise One

What does it mean to be "wise"? Certainly we want to be the "wise ones" in the lives of our children and grandchildren, but if we are going to be the "wise one" with whom our they are able to walk, we need to know what it means and looks like for us to be wise. The best place to learn what this means is the Bible and I especially love how God puts it in James 3:17 . . .
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
God's wisdom is pure, peaceable, gentle, reasonable, merciful, shows good fruit, impartial and sincere, so if we are wise, we will also have all of these things in our lives. The great thing is since these are all gifts from God, we are able to live lives which are defined by these things and when we do, we will be wise people. For example, when we choose to live the Fruit of the Spirit (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Gentleness, Goodness, Kindness, Faithfulness, Self-Control - Galatians 5:22, 23), we will be wise. When we think about the things God wants us to think about (whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy - Philippians 4:8), we will be wise.

The Bible has much more to say about what it looks like to be a "wise one", and when we follow these things, we will be wise and the ones we love will be able to walk with us and learn how they are able to be wise as well. So, be the "wise one" and live in such a way as to be able to hand down wisdom to the ones you love who walk with you.
