Disturb the Present. Better the Future

We want the future to be better for our grandchildren; what grandparent does not? So, we have to be intentional about shaking up the status quo of the present; we need to motivate our grandchildren to walk and talk with God now, so they grow in their walk with and trust in God and become people who love Him and others. How might we do this? Consider the following . . .
  • Of course, first of all, make it a matter of prayer. We need to be people who pray faithfully for our grandchildren.
  • Tell our grandchildren the amazing and everyday things God has done in the past - this is so they get to know Who God is and what it looks like when He works in our lives. When they know these things, they will remember what He does and will know Him.
  • Be focused and intentional when it comes to helping your grandchildren learn to be people who talk with God on their own. Yes, they need to know you pray. Yes, then need to hear your pray. Yes, they need to know they are able to ask you to pray for them. But, they must learn to be people who talk to God on their own if they are going to have a walk of their own which will last through the blessings and challenges they will experience throughout their lives. (Get the PDF of Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Children for just $5 - it will help equip the children you love ages four through fourteen, so they learn to be people who talk with God on their own.)
  • Keep a record of the things God does; the ways He answers prayer and engage your grandchildren in adding to your blessings jar or God's Great Deeds Journal. Do not trust people to remember - record what God does, so it is there for future generations to know.
These are just a few simple ways for us to disturb the present to better the future - ways we all are able to do make a difference as none of these things are difficult and do not require a large bank account. These are also things you are able to do no matter the age or location of your grandchildren.

So, disturb the present. Be engaged. Invest your time in the place where it matters the most now - in your grandchildren - it also matters later, because when you do, you will better the future.
