But, heritage is far more than a house; more than sweet memories. It is also about leaving a legacy of faith for our children and grandchildren - and if we are so blessed, our great-grandchildren. A house will not last forever (even if it does last 100 years or more), and memories are able to be forgotten, but a heritage of faith will endure from one generation to the next if we are faithful to hand down this heritage which truly matters. It will last, because it is built upon a sure foundation - the truth of God's Word and the faithfulness of God. In Matthew 24:35 we read -
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. And in John 10:27-30 we read -
God's Word is true and it is where we learn about this heritage of faith and He is faithful - He will absolutely do what He has promised to do and He promises to give eternal life and says no one will take us out of His hand. This is the vital heritage of faith which we need to hand down and when we do, it matters, because it lasts. It lasts, not because of anything we say or do, but because of the One in whom we place our faith and in His faithfulness and reliability.
