Pray, Persuade & Promote - Our Most Powerful Tools

Whether our children/ grown children/ grandchildren are walking with God or not, we as parents and grandparents have truly powerful "tools" available to us which we are able to use to unleash their potential - and the touch of God in their lives. These powerful "tools" are the influence of our prayers, persuasion and the promoting of godly values.  How do we influence the ones we love with these powerful "tools"? Consider the following . . .
  • Prayer - this one may seem obvious, but stop and think about it for a minute. The time we spend in praying for the ones we love, praying with the ones we love and in encouraging the ones we love to be people who pray is time incredibly well spent. There are many passages throughout Scripture about how important it is for us to pray, but one short, sweet and to the point verse is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 - "Pray continually." God wants us to talk with Him all the time about and for the ones we love. It doesn't "bother" Him for us to talk with Him; He wants us to do so. Make time to pray specifically for the ones you love and then stay in an attitude of prayer throughout the day - as your thoughts go to the ones you love, talk with God for and about them. When you wake in the wee hours, talk with God for and about the ones you love. Take time to pray with the ones you love - at meals, when they bring a concern to you, any time you are together and the opportunity is there, pray with them. Equip the ones you love, so they learn to be people who talk with God. Consider giving the children you love ages four through fourteen the book, Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Children to help them learn to be people who pray (it is available on Amazon and in our Book Store). Pray; doing so will powerfully influence the ones you love.
  • Persuasion - this is powerful as long as you are using God's Word. Don't argue with the ones you love or "beat them over the head" with the Bible, rather share God's Word. You are able to do this by speaking Scripture to the ones you love, posting Scripture prayers/blessings in your home where they are seen, and answering questions with what God's Word has to say about any given situation. Share the "whys" for why you believe the Bible is true and are able to trust it with confidence and trust what God says about His Word in Isaiah 55:11 - It is the same with My Word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
  • Promote Godly Values - again, this is not something where you want to "beat it over their heads" or argue with the ones you love, but rather allow God's Word and the truth in it to be clearly the things you use to guide you in the decisions you make and in the values you have. Share these values and why they are your values. When this is done with love and grace the ones you love will respect you and the things for which you stand.
Pray, persuade and promote - our most powerful tools, because they rely upon and point to God. Use these tools and watch them make a difference and unleash the potential of your grandchildren.
