Prayer to Point Our Grandchildren to Christ

Heavenly Father,

We long to tell “the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and His might, and the wonders that He has done” (Psalm 78:4).

Please provide us opportunities to share our faith stories, including our testimonies and stories of answered prayers, with our children and grandchildren. Give us insight to recognize these opportunities when they arise. Help us to navigate technology and use it to Your Glory, especially during this lock-down.

We pray for wisdom and discernment as we choose what stories to share and how to share them. Let us be sensitive, especially to our grandchildren’s emotional and spiritual maturity. Let us be willing to offer milk if they are not ready for solid food (I Corinthians 3:2, paraphrased).

We pray that You give us the right words to say. Let these words, "accomplish what You desire and achieve the purpose for which You sent them" (Isaiah 55:11, paraphrased).

Let us point our children and grandchildren to Christ, so they, too, will “tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord.”

In Christ’s Name, we pray.
Amen.

Author’s Note:
When we read Paul’s letter to the Galatians, we notice he was detained in Galatia because of an unknown “bodily ailment” (Galatians 4:13). He seized this opportunity to share the Good News with the people there.

While we may not be ill, we are presently on lock-down and so too are our grandchildren. May I suggest we take this opportunity to consider and record, either in a journal or on a cell phone video, some of the faith stories we want to share with our families?

While some of us have experienced “long distance grandparenting” because of the physical miles, others of us are experiencing it for the first time, as a result of the coronavirus epidemic. I want to encourage all of us to follow Paul’s example. Let us seize this lock-down opportunity, albeit unexpected, to connect with our grandchildren through technology (such as Skype, Facetime or Zoom) to share some of our experiences walking with the Lord.

Please let us know how you do this. We want to hear your stories.
