But, joy is not a "one-way street", because as grandmas - and grandpas - we are able to help our grandchildren experience joy as well. In John 16:24 we read . . .
Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. When we teach them to be people who pray, we are giving our grandchildren the greatest opportunity to experience a full measure of joy. As they pray, and see God answer, they will know a joy like no other, so let your grandchildren see and hear you pray. Share with them as God answers prayer. Provide opportunities for them to pray and rejoice with them as God answers their prayers. (Get them the book Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Children from our book store or on Amazon as it will help children ages four - 14 learn to pray.) Doing these things will help them learn to be people who pray and means they will experience a full joy which comes from God.
This goes for us as well - beyond the incredible joy we experience from our grandchildren, when we are people who pray - especially when we pray for our grandchildren and grown children - we will know a joy like no other. Check these resources from the Christian Grandparenting Network to help you be a praying grandma (grandpa, too).
Prayer - it is a powerful way for you and for the ones you love to experience joy! Be people who pray and you will know, and hand down a joy like no other.
