Nurture Their Dreams

As we are able to connect with our grandchildren, whether in person or through tech, we need to watch for signs of discouragement - especially in our older grandchildren. With COVID-19 and the stay at home orders, they have not been able to get together with their friends for a month or more and may feel lonely, sad and depressed. While we always need to be people who nurture their dreams, now it is even more important to help them learn to look to the future and dream about all the blessings God has before them.

Jeremiah 29:11 tells us - and them . . .

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV)
I will bless you with a future filled with hope—a future of success, not of suffering. (CEV)
I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. (MSG)
I say this because I know what I am planning for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future. (NCV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (NLT)
While we absolutely should encourage the dreams of our grandchildren, we are able to tell them the truth - God has good plans for them. He will NEVER leave them. Not when they are home away from their friends, not when they move into a new phase of their lives where they go to college, not ever.

Now, just because God has good plans for them and will never leave them, it does not mean they will never face difficult, unpleasant, even frightening times - as they are now. But, they are able to trust God for their now and their future - as are we.

So, nurture the dreams of the children you love; they are able to confidently dream of their future knowing God has good plans for them and will always be with them.
