Bring in the Kingdom

I absolutely agree, we must focus time, effort, resources, and energy on sharing with the children we love the truth about how they are able to believe in God and trust His Word with confidence.

As grandmas (and grandpas and parents, too) who are purposeful when it comes to handing down the faith, this truth is one which motivates and moves us. Our grandchildren are able to understand the truth about God, His love, grace, faithfulness, and Word.

George Barna is known for his solid research - particularly in relation to Faith issues. He says; "The current Barna study indicates nearly half of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ as their savior do so before reaching the age of 13 (43%), and two out of three born again Christians (64%) made this commitment to Christ before their 18th birthday. One out of eight born again people (13%) made their profession of faith while 18 to 21 years old. Less than one out of every four born again Christians (23%) embraced Christ after their twenty-first birthday."

He goes on to say; "Among Christians who embraced Christ before their teen years, half were led to Christ by their parents, with another one in five led by some other friend or relative . . . Among people who accepted Christ when they were age 13 through 21, the process was much more diverse. One out of five credited a friend with bringing them to Christ, and a similar proportion said their parents were responsible for their decision. One-fifth also recalled an event as the trigger for their commitment. One-sixth of the people saved as teens (16%) listed a relative other than their parent as the primary influencer."

You will find George Barna's full report and research at this link, but it is clear, as we have been saying, parents are the most influential people in the lives of our grandchildren and we grandparents are the second most influential. We are able to be people who point our grandchildren to a life-long relationship with God and when we do, we will find we are well on our way to reaching the world!

Scripture shows us God's plan is for faith to be handed down from generation to generation - God has important work for us to do as long as we are living on this Earth; we need to hand down the faith. And the years where we are able to make the biggest impact is those early years, so do not worry your grandchildren are too young to understand. They are not, so . . . hand down the faith!
