As grandmas (and grandpas/parents, too) there are many things we need to do, but one essential thing is we need to talk with God and ask Him to make His ways known to our grandchildren – and family! If we want them to remember God’s compassion and faithful love, how they have been able to see these things in their own lives in the past, and have open eyes to see it today . . . and in the future as well, we need to pray they will continue to choose to follow God’s way, all of their lives, and will choose to seek Him, follow the path He puts before them, and have hearts filled with worship to Him! Consider making Psalms 25:11-21 a go-to passage to pray for the ones you love -
Dear God, on this day I thank You for forgiving my sin, for my sin was many, yet because You are true to Your name, You forgave me! You will show the right path to all who worship You; I choose to worship You. Please show me the right way! Oh LORD, You are my Friend and I will always look to You, because You rescue me from every trap! When I am lonely and troubled, please show You care and have pity on me. When my awful worries keep growing, please rescue me from sadness. See my troubles and misery and forgive my sins. I come to You for shelter. Please protect me, keep me safe and don’t disappoint me. I will obey You with all my heart and I trust You, knowing You will save me!
I pray my grandchildren/children will understand though their sins are many, yet You forgive them, because You are true to Your name! Please cause them to have hearts filled with worship to You, so they will seek You and the follow the right path which You show to them. Please give them hearts which sincerely want You to be their Friend, remind them to always look to You, and know You rescue them from every trap! When they are lonely and troubled, please show You care and have pity on them. When their awful worries keep growing, please rescue them from sadness; please encourage them to know You see their troubles and misery, and forgive their sins. I pray they will choose to come to You for shelter. Please protect them and keep them safe, so they are not discouraged, but will instead choose to obey You with all their heart and put their trust in You, knowing You will save them! Thank You for Your great love for us; I love You, too! Amen!
So often, far too often, the traps in this world look appealing – not at all like traps. They look like; “just the way people do things” and like there is nothing wrong with them. But, traps are traps, no matter how they are packaged. This is why I pray Psalm 25 for my family and ask God to help them have eyes which are open, so they are not side-tracked or derailed, and so they will be able to see the traps for what they truly are – traps. If, and when, they should find themselves in a trap, I pray they will look to God and trust Him to rescue them – He always will!
You will find praying Scripture helps you stay focused and keeps you praying intentionally. Praying for our families is important - we are not able to make them choose to follow, love, and walk with God, but God is able and willing to move in their lives. He is able and willing to open their eyes and draw them to Him. There is nothing more important to me than this . . . and it is why I pray intentionally by praying Scripture for my grandchildren (and grown children).
