This past Summer and continuing into the Fall, so many people in our country have experienced loss due to wild fires. As I write this, nearly 12 million acres, yes, twelve million acres, have gone up in flames. More than 10,200 homes and other structures have been lost. So far, 68 people have been injured and 37 people have died. There is so much damage, grief, and loss.

Underestimating what God can and will do for us; I don't know about you, but this is something I have done. More than once, I have looked at challenges in my life and in the lives of the ones I love and, from my perspective, they looked enormous. For example, last year my oldest grandson was going to be attending a new school in the Fall and did not get in the school which was his first choice. (I wrote about the "enormous" problem at the following link and about God's amazing answer at this link.)

As our grandchildren continue in this new school year - whether it is in virtual school or in-person school - for the first time in Kindergarten, as another year in a familiar school, perhaps as they enter High School, maybe as they begin their studies in college, or perhaps begin a year of school in a new town, attitude truly does makes a huge difference. Take time to talk with them - in person, through email, over the phone or maybe through facetime - about how the way they see and respond to the things going on around them, the attitude they show, will impact the other students and their relationships with their teachers. Plus, most importantly, their attitude provides the opportunity for them to show others they love and follow Jesus.
I'm very torn. One way we are able to support, encourage, and equip you is by sharing resources which will help you grow as a grandparent, and enable you to hand down confident faith. But, I don't want to feel like we are bothering you by "pushing" resources on you. So, when a new resource becomes available we will share it with you on this blog. Each month we will share our "book of the month". But, if you would like to know about additional resources and ways to utilize them effectively, please check out one of my other blogs - Books by Lynda - at this link. On this blog you will find posts devoted to resources which will help you hand down confident faith.

Whether our grown children are walking with God, or not, we need to be faithful to pray for them so they, "have an understanding of - and a desire for - the presence of the Holy Spirit, so they find all the freedom and liberty, devotion, and restoration, transformation, and wholeness God has for them." Is there anything better for us to be praying about for them?
Consider making this a daily focus of your prayers in the following way . . .
Forever is such a wonderful word. Especially when it is connected with a promise from God. I love this verse. The promise in it is one I - as a mom and grandma, hold to; tightly. I love how God has promised His words will not depart from my mouth or the mouths of my children and children's children from now on and forever!

It has been six months since our country experienced the challenges, difficulties, and sadness which came with covid. So many people have lost loved ones. So many people are struggling with not being able to see their loved ones in hospitals/living centers. So many our our grandchildren are struggling with not being able to go to school, see their friends, or with being in school and wondering if they will contract covid. So many business owners have lost their businesses. So many people have lost their jobs. When 2020 started, none of us thought this year would shape up as it has.

God loves our grandchildren, no matter what. This is the truth. Thisis something we absolutely want our grandchildren to believe and experience.
We know we need to be sure our grandchildren know we love them - this absolutely matters. But, we also need to be sure they know we love them for who they are - and our love is not anything they have to earn . . . or are able to lose. When they know we love them forever and for always, no matter what, they are able to rest secure in our love.

There are many important truths we need to help our grandchildrenlearn as they go through life, but one essential truth is, they are not here for themselves. God put them on this Earth, designed, and created them exactly as they are to make a difference.
While this message is essential for our grandchildren to learn and take to heart, it is essential for us to do the same. God put us on this Earth, designed, and created us to make a difference. This was true for us when we were younger, and it is still true today.
Don't you just love this saying from Matthew Henry! If you are a prayer warrior who has been praying for years, you have likelyexperienced this in your own life and have examples of how God has answered your prayers as part of your "Prayer History" which you are able to share with your grandchildren. If prayer is something you struggle with, then try the following to become a prayer warrior and build your own "Prayer History" . . .

I'm very happy today to announce the release of book three inthe new "Life on the 'Goldilocks Planet'" curriculum and book series - Civets, Tree Kangaroos, Batoids & More! This book will equip you with the tools you need to hand down confident faith.
It is so easy for us to lose focus when it comes to what matters themost. As we near retirement - or experience retirement, we may focus upon being certain all our "ducks are in a row", our finances are "set", and think about what we want our retirement to look like. We may fall into the "trap" of thinking our retirement is all about us - going places, doing things we saved for these final years - and lose focus when it comes to what matters the most - handing down confident faith and impacting the lives of the ones we love.

Today with so much of our world experiencing chaos - whether fromfire, weather, politics, covid, or any other thing happening in our lives, I want to share a promise with you from God in regards to our descendants. What better way is there to face chaos than being reminded of God's promises and love for our children and grandchildren.
As grandmas (and grandpas, too) who want to see the children God has entrusted to us make the choice to love, know, and walk with Him, we know we need to be involved on purpose with them and focused upon handing down confident faith. But, we may not always know how to do this. Well, take heart! God tells us exactly what He wants us to do! Look at these verses in Deuteronomy 6 -
God tells us to . . .

While there certainly are many things we pray about for our grown children and grandchildren, praying for the condition of their hearts and their relationship with God are certainly two of the most important things. Some of my favorite verses are found in Jeremiah 24:6, 7 -
Grandchildren are such a gift - one which continues to give throughout our lives as we experience life with them, and the remember these times. Whether it is their simple response of, "I love you, too, grandma, with all my heart!" when we tell them we love them, or when an older grandchild makes time to visit with an aging grandparent - they are a unique, wonderful, and enduring treasure. So, today I thought it would be fun to share some quotes about grandchildren . . .

How has God worked in your life? In what ways has He answered your prayers? When have you experienced, or gone through a difficult time and were able to know God was with you all the way? What has your own walk with God looked like? These are important, even essential things for you to share with, tell and teach your grandchildren. They need to hear and know the accounts of how God has shown Himself to be real in your life. They need to hear and know the accounts of how and why you made the choice to walk with God. If you do not tell them, how will they know these things?

We want our grandchildren to know, love, and walk with God all of their lives, but these are things they have to do for themselves. They are decisions and choices they need to make. It isn't enough for us and for their parents to know, love, and walk with God. They have to make this choice for themselves.
This is a message I want my grandchildren to not only hear from me, but to see as it is lived out in my real life throughout their real lives. I want them to know just as their grandma depends on God and receives joy from Him, they are able to do the same!
Just look at Psalm 34 . . .

We may think we are not really able to share what is on our heart when we pray; the concerns, cares, and even things about which we may feel confused and upset. But David did and we do not read of any lightening bolts being sent from God to "zap" David for being "real".
Look at Psalms 102 for an example of a "real" prayer . . .

So, what does it look like to hand down confident faith? Do we have to be "super grandparents" to do this or have years of experience teaching others? No, we just have to be the people God made us to be, have a willing heart, and be committed to not give up. Consider the following ways you are able to hand down committed faith . . .
Quite a number of years ago I found a crochet pattern for a nativity set. This pattern used regular yarn and was designed to have most of the pieces fit over soda bottles . . . so, the finished set was supposed to be fairly large.
When I saw it, I thought maybe I would instead use very small hooks (9mm or 10mm) and crochet thread to make a small set to fit nestled among the branches of my tree each year. Since I like to keep the focus of Christmas on Jesus . . . it is, after all, His birthday . . . I liked the idea of nestling a Nativity set among the branches of my tree each year.

So, how are we able to, "inspire your child (grandchild) at every age toward their best effort"? Consider the following ideas . . .

I disagree. I believe when we take this view, we completely miss what wisdom is when it comes to our grandchildren. I am happy to spend time with my grandchildren as often as possible. My grandsons have at least one sleepover at my house each week and with covid, two of them are at my house twice a week all day for virtual school while their parents are at work.
So, why do I believe it is real wisdom to spend as much time with my grandchildren as possible? Consider the following . . .

So, as we look at the remainder of 2020, lets focus on passing confident faith to the children we love. There are many ways we are able to do this; consider the following . . .

As I have written, a time - or two, we have fewer days before us than we do behind us. This is an "inconvenient truth" - one we may not like to hear, but one which is true for all of us . . . we are not getting any younger. As I think about this, I wonder; "What will my grandsons remember about me?" and "What do I want them to remember?"
