The "Green" Will Return - God Will Bring them Back!

This past Summer and continuing into the Fall, so many people in our country have experienced loss due to wild fires. As I write this, nearly 12 million acres, yes, twelve million acres, have gone up in flames. More than 10,200 homes and other structures have been lost. So far, 68 people have been injured and 37 people have died. There is so much damage, grief, and loss.

Knowing Them is Essential

How well do you know your grandchildren? Do you know the little things - such as their favorite color, food, activity? Do you know the big things - where they are in their walk with God? It matters for us to know our grandchildren, because if we are serious about handing down a confident faith, knowing them is essential.

Our "Journey" of Godly Grandparenting

There are times in our lives when we are able to see what God is doing, we know what He wants us to do, and we are able to "take off" and head in the direction He is leading. There are other times when we may not see what He is doing and it is in those times when we must just keep on doing the things we know God wants us to do - whether we are able to see where we are going or not.

I Sure Love How God Answers Your Prayers

Underestimating what God can and will do for us; I don't know about you, but this is something I have done. More than once, I have looked at challenges in my life and in the lives of the ones I love and, from my perspective, they looked enormous. For example, last year my oldest grandson was going to be attending a new school in the Fall and did not get in the school which was his first choice. (I wrote about the "enormous" problem at the following link and about God's amazing answer at this link.)

Attitude - Hand Out Crayons!

As our grandchildren continue in this new school year - whether it is in virtual school or in-person school - for the first time in Kindergarten, as another year in a familiar school, perhaps as they enter High School, maybe as they begin their studies in college, or perhaps begin a year of school in a new town, attitude truly does makes a huge difference. Take time to talk with them - in person, through email, over the phone or maybe through facetime - about how the way they see and respond to the things going on around them, the attitude they show, will impact the other students and their relationships with their teachers. Plus, most importantly, their attitude provides the opportunity for them to show others they love and follow Jesus.

What They Learn Today, Matters for Tomorrow

I'm very torn. One way we are able to support, encourage, and equip you is by sharing resources which will help you grow as a grandparent, and enable you to hand down confident faith. But, I don't want to feel like we are bothering you by "pushing" resources on you. So, when a new resource becomes available we will share it with you on this blog. Each month we will share our "book of the month". But, if you would like to know about additional resources and ways to utilize them effectively, please check out one of my other blogs - Books by Lynda - at this link. On this blog you will find posts devoted to resources which will help you hand down confident faith.

A Daily Focus for Our Prayers

Whether our grown children are walking with God, or not, we need to be faithful to pray for them so they, "have an understanding of - and a desire for - the presence of the Holy Spirit, so they find all the freedom and liberty, devotion, and restoration, transformation, and wholeness God has for them." Is there anything better for us to be praying about for them?

Consider making this a daily focus of your prayers in the following way . . .

Forever is such a wonderful word. Especially when it is connected with a promise from God. I love this verse. The promise in it is one I - as a mom and grandma, hold to; tightly. I love how God has promised His words will not depart from my mouth or the mouths of my children and children's children from now on and forever!

God has Plans, Not Problems for Our Lives

It has been six months since our country experienced the challenges,

difficulties, and sadness which came with covid. So many people have lost loved ones. So many people are struggling with not being able to see their loved ones in hospitals/living centers. So many our our grandchildren are struggling with not being able to go to school, see their friends, or with being in school and wondering if they will contract covid. So many business owners have lost their businesses. So many people have lost their jobs. When 2020 started, none of us thought this year would shape up as it has.

Pray & Believe - God Will Answer

We write a lot on Grandmas with Heart about praying for our

grandchildren. There is a reason for this; it is one of the single-most powerful things we will ever do for them.

Love Them No Matter What

God loves our grandchildren, no matter what. This is the truth. This

is something we absolutely want our grandchildren to believe and experience.

We know we need to be sure our grandchildren know we love them - this absolutely matters. But, we also need to be sure they know we love them for who they are - and our love is not anything they have to earn . . . or are able to lose. When they know we love them forever and for always, no matter what, they are able to rest secure in our love.

God's Love Abides Evermore the Same

Aren't you so thankful for the truth in this quote from Charles Spurgeon? Even though our lives change, and they certainly do, God always remains the same. He always continues to love us. He is always trustworthy. He is always faithful.

They Are Waiting For You

There are many important truths we need to help our grandchildren

learn as they go through life, but one essential truth is, they are not here for themselves. God put them on this Earth, designed, and created them exactly as they are to make a difference.

While this message is essential for our grandchildren to learn and take to heart, it is essential for us to do the same. God put us on this Earth, designed, and created us to make a difference. This was true for us when we were younger, and it is still true today.

God Will Set You A-Praying

Don't you just love this saying from Matthew Henry! If you are a prayer warrior who has been praying for years, you have likely

experienced this in your own life and have examples of how God has answered your prayers as part of your "Prayer History" which you are able to share with your grandchildren. If prayer is something you struggle with, then try the following to become a prayer warrior and build your own "Prayer History" . . .

Curriculum to Help You Hand Down Confident Faith - Our Most Important Job

I'm very happy today to announce the release of book three in

the new "Life on the 'Goldilocks Planet'" curriculum and book series - Civets, Tree Kangaroos, Batoids & More!  This book will equip you with the tools you need to hand down confident faith.

Keep Our Focus on What Matters the Most

It is so easy for us to lose focus when it comes to what matters the

most. As we near retirement - or experience retirement, we may focus upon being certain all our "ducks are in a row", our finances are "set", and think about what we want our retirement to look like. We may fall into the "trap" of thinking our retirement is all about us - going places, doing things we saved for these final years - and lose focus when it comes to what matters the most - handing down confident faith and impacting the lives of the ones we love.

A Promise to Hold to when Facing Chaos

Today with so much of our world experiencing chaos - whether from

fire, weather, politics, covid, or any other thing happening in our lives, I want to share a promise with you from God in regards to our descendants. What better way is there to face chaos than being reminded of God's promises and love for our children and grandchildren.

How to Hand Down Confident Faith

As grandmas (and grandpas, too) who want to see the children God has entrusted to us make the choice to love, know, and walk with Him, we know we need to be involved on purpose with them and focused upon handing down confident faith. But, we may not always know how to do this. Well, take heart! God tells us exactly what He wants us to do! Look at these verses in Deuteronomy 6 -

God tells us to . . .

Pray for Their Hearts

While there certainly are many things we pray  about for our grown  children and grandchildren, praying for the condition of their hearts and their relationship with God are certainly two of the most important things.  Some of my favorite verses are found in Jeremiah 24:6, 7 -

Grandchildren - Gifts from God

Grandchildren are such a gift - one which continues to give throughout our lives as we experience life with them, and the remember these times. Whether it is their simple response of, "I love you, too, grandma, with all my heart!" when we tell them we love them, or when an older grandchild makes time to visit with an aging grandparent - they are a unique, wonderful, and enduring treasure. So, today I thought it would be fun to share some quotes about grandchildren . . .

Remember the Blessings & Pray for Those Experiencing Tragedies

This past week - and for quite a few weeks before - we as a country
have been experiencing and watching tragedies with the fires out west and the hurricane down south. So many people have had their lives torn apart - and have lost all their belongings . . . and some have lost loved ones as well. I remember two years ago with the Carr fire how my friends and family experienced this massive, horrible fire. Even though, as David Jeremiah said, our tragedies are vastly outnumbered by blessings, when we go through the tragedies, it is most certainly a difficult time for us and for the ones we love - and for people we do not know as well.

Don't Stop Telling Them

How has God worked in your life? In what ways has He answered your prayers? When have you experienced, or gone through a difficult time and were able to know God was with you all the way? What has your own walk with God looked like?

These are important, even essential things for you to share with, tell and teach your grandchildren. They need to hear and know the accounts of how God has shown Himself to be real in your life. They need to hear and know the accounts of how and why you made the choice to walk with God. If you do not tell them, how will they know these things?

Make Sure Your Grandchildren Know What Prayer Is All About

As grandmas - and grandpas, too - we know prayer makes a
difference. While there are many truths we need to be intentional about handing down to our grandchildren, this is one essential truth, and we need to be sure our grandchildren know it.

Trust the Peace Which Comes From God

When I think back over the posts I've written in the past few years, many of my favorites make me smile - or even laugh out loud as I
remember and think about my sweet grandsons. There are also some which truly express what is in my heart . . . so I decided to share one such post with you again today, it is a great reminder for me . . .

The Most Important Thing - Point Them to God!

In an ordinary year the Fall is a very busy time of year; children go
to school, opportunities at church begin
to kick into "high gear", children trick-or-treat or go to Fall/harvest festivals at church, Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner . . . yes, typically it is a very busy time of year with so many things happening. Of course, this year with covid, who knows if Fall will hold all these things - or even some of them. It is far too easy for us to become so focused on the many things we have to do - or used to do, we end up losing our focus on the things which are the most important . . . pointing children to God!

We want our grandchildren to know, love, and walk with God all of their lives, but these are things they have to do for themselves. They are decisions and choices they need to make. It isn't enough for us and for their parents to know, love, and walk with God. They have to make this choice for themselves.

Glorify the Lord with me, and let us Praise His Name Together!

We all have ups and downs in our lives; happy and sad times, times
when things are going along well and times when the going is more difficult, but in all these times I have found I am always able to depend on God! He never leaves me and with Him I may always have joy
regardless of the current circumstances!

This is a message I want my grandchildren to not only hear from me, but to see as it is lived out in my real life throughout their real lives. I want them to know just as their grandma depends on God and receives joy from Him, they are able to do the same!

Just look at Psalm 34 . . .

Curriculum to Help You Hand Down Confident Faith

I am often asked by grandmas (and grandpas, too) how they are able to do more to hand down confident faith than pray and invite their grandchildren to go to church with them, and my answer is always to watch for unexpected opportunities for conversations which connect life with God, be sure we live what we say, and plan special opportunities to have those important conversations. It is typically the third of these three things with which they find the most challenging, so today I'm going to walk you though a new curriculum written to help you plan these special opportunities.

I Corinthians 13 for Moms - and Grandmas (Grandpas, Too!)

From time-to-time I share things with you which I find in the NIV Mom's Devotional Bible; today I'm sharing a Mom's (or Grandma's - or even Grandpa's) Version of I Corinthians 13!

Be Equipped to Influence the Ones You Love

I have wonderful news . . . I have finally been able to reduce the cost of the print books for the "Life on the 'Goldilocks Planet'" curriculum/book series! I am limited by the printing costs, but have been able to reduce the price for the print book by $4.50 for the Amazon book and by $5.00 for the print copies I sell in my bookstore by reformatting them and changing the size! The content is still the same.

Fun Facts about Grandparents & Why What They Do Matters!

Clearly, from the things I write about - especially in the past week or so - I sincerely believe grandparents need to focus on handing down confident faith to their grandchildren. There are reasons I believe this - some of them are . . .

A "Real" Prayer with Concerns & Cares & We Hold On to God - Psalms 102

Don't you just love reading the prayers of David in the Book of Psalms? David was very "real" in the way he talked with God. He didn't "sugar-coat" his prayers or try to sound "holy". He just talked with God about the cares on his heart. And, apparently, like me, some of the "cares" on his heart had to do with his children, their descendants, and even children, "not yet created" - his grandchildren!

We may think we are not really able to share what is on our heart when we pray; the concerns, cares, and even things about which we may feel confused and upset. But David did and we do not read of any lightening bolts being sent from God to "zap" David for being "real".

Look at Psalms 102 for an example of a "real" prayer . . .

Be Reminded Today - You are Loved & Empowered

When you think about handing down confident faith, you may feel like you are completely unable to do this. But, today I just want to encourage you with the truth we find in this quote from Beth Moore - no matter what obstacles we face, God loves us and He will give us the power and strength we need to do what He wants us to do - and we know He wants us to hand down confident faith to the children He has entrusted to us.

So, what does it look like to hand down confident faith? Do we have to be "super grandparents" to do this or have years of experience teaching others? No, we just have to be the people God made us to be, have a willing heart, and be committed to not give up. Consider the following ways you are able to hand down committed faith . . .

Lost: One Camel . . .

Don't you love memories? They are most certainly a wonderful gift from God. Today I'm happy to share with you a sweet memory I treasure from five years ago.

Quite a number of years ago I found a crochet pattern for a nativity set. This pattern used regular yarn and was designed to have most of the pieces fit over soda bottles . . . so, the finished set was supposed to be fairly large.

When I saw it, I thought maybe I would instead use very small hooks (9mm or 10mm) and crochet thread to make a small set to fit nestled among the branches of my tree each year. Since I like to keep the focus of Christmas on Jesus . . . it is, after all, His birthday . . . I liked the idea of nestling a Nativity set among the branches of my tree each year.

Inspire Your Child (Grandchild) at Every Age Toward Their Best Effort

One of our Grandmas with Heart is Linda Ranson Jacobs and she is the author of the amazing book - the single parent confident & successful (you will find it at this link and it is a must-read-and-take- to-heart book whether you - or someone you love - is a single parent, or not). In her book, Linda talks about using Positive Motivation to help children to influence children - and since as grandparents we are the second-most influential people in the lives of our grandchildren (second only to parents), I thought I would share a few of her ideas for how to influence children with positive motivation with you - but just a couple of them - you will want to read her book to learn them all!

So, how are we able to, "inspire your child (grandchild) at every age toward their best effort"? Consider the following ideas . . .

Give Yourself & The Ones You Love a Grandparent's Day Gift

Tomorrow is Grandparent's Day. This post is a Grandparent's Day post, but it is not about how important grandparents are - although grandparents are extremely important. It is not about how grandparents are able to make a lasting difference in the lives of their grandchildren - although grandparents are absolutely able to make a lasting difference in the lives of their grandchildren. It is not a call to grandparents to be people who pray for their grandchildren and children - although grandparents do need to be people who pray for their grandchildren and children. This is a post to encourage grandparents by letting you know about a curriculum resource written for you to use to hand down confident faith.

Speak Up On Behalf Of Your Grandchildren

This is a post to call grandparents to speak up on behalf of their grandchildren.

The "Steps" & the "Stops"

Are you, and the ones you love, experiencing "steps" or "stops" at this time? With covid we all have experienced some very definite "stops" for sure. But, with the return to school, many of our grandchildren are experiencing "steps" - and may be somewhat stressed about where these "steps" will take them.

Our Top Five Reasons for Being There

I know people who believe they should only let their grandchildren  spend time at their homes a couple times a month. They think it is "wise" to set "limits", so their own children do not take advantage of them when it comes to taking care of their grandchildren. They say this "frees them up" to be able to enjoy their retirement.

I disagree. I believe when we take this view, we completely miss what wisdom is when it comes to our grandchildren. I am happy to spend time with my grandchildren as often as possible. My grandsons have at least one sleepover at my house each week and with covid, two of them are at my house twice a week all day for virtual school while their parents are at work.

So, why do I believe it is real wisdom to spend as much time with my grandchildren as possible? Consider the following . . .

Using Bacon

Do you have things in your life which you think you will never use? Things you had to learn or do, mostly when you were younger? Well I do . . . or at least I did, until one morning a few years back.

Grandparent's Day - Let's Focus on What Matters the Most!

This Sunday, September 13, 2020, is Grandparent's Day. Those of us who are grandparents can use this day to renew our commitment to pass on a confident heritage of faith to our grandchildren. Is there anything more important we could spend our time doing?

So, as we look at the remainder of 2020, lets focus on passing confident faith to the children we love. There are many ways we are able to do this; consider the following . . .

Eyelash Vipers, Pygmy Elephants, Pangolins & More! - the Tool You Need to Hand Down a Confident Faith

Yesterday we received our print copies of book two in the "Life on the 'Goldilocks Planet'" series - Eyelash Vipers, Pygmy Elephants, Pangolins & More!  Obviously three of the twelve animals in this book are Eyelash Vipers, Pygmy Elephants, and Pangolins, but today I'm happy to let you know what the other nine animals are . . . the Cassowary, Sunflower Sea Star, Large Blue Butterfly, Mantled Guereza Colobus Monkey, Golden Poison Dart Frog, Sun Bear, Hawksbill Sea Turtle, Tufted Puffin, and Archerfish.

The "Messages" You Send.

Growing up can be difficult. Trying to figure out "who" you are and what you are going to "do" with your life, are not the easiest things to do. Children sometimes receive messages which make this even more difficult. It is one of our greatest responsibilities to be absolutely certain the messages our grandchildren/children receive from us are ones which build them up, encourage them and give them a positive view of themselves for many reasons, but one of the most important reasons is because the way a grandparent (and parent) sees a child is often the way they will see themselves.

What They Will Remember

My dad's funeral service is tomorrow. Over the past few days his children and grandchildren have been posting on facebook some of their memories of him. We all have commented on how we know he loved us. He spoke of this love to us all and he showed it - this is the first thing his family remembers about him.

As I have written, a time - or two, we have fewer days before us than we do behind us. This is an "inconvenient truth" - one we may not like to hear, but one which is true for all of us . . . we are not getting any younger. As I think about this, I wonder; "What will my grandsons remember about me?" and "What do I want them to remember?"

Four Steps to Making Great Memories

One of my favorite devotions from the Grandmother's Biblewas written by Bobbie Wolgemuth and is entitled, I Will . .  I Will . . .  She says, "Psalm 9 contains a great 'I Will' activity list to remember when you spend time with your grandchild. First, start with an attitude of praise. Tell the Lord what you are thankful for. Count your blessings, name them. It will be easy to have a heart full of thankfulness after you've named even a few. Your heart will be full and running over with the kind of attitude which pleases God and spills over on the young ones with the love of the Savior. Second, tell the children what God has done in the past. One of our greatest resources as grandmothers is the history we have lived. Everyday miracles fill our memory banks.  Pull a few past marvels out of your memory treasure chest and tell your grandchild of the Lord's wonders. Third, be a happy grandmother. Open the door with a smile and a hug. Let your face show the gladness of the Lord. Your inside joy should envelop your grandchildren with every encounter, no matter where you are. The fourth 'I will" is my favorite: sing. Sing with your grandchildren. Leave a song in their hearts."
