As you make or finalize your Christmas gift list, be sure to keep in mind, the best gift you will ever give your grandchildren is the example of what it looks like to live life as someone who loves God and others with your all. When we love God with our all, we will honor, respect and obey Him and His Word and when we love others we will be kind, patient and generous.

You may be a committed prayer warrior who spends time every day talking with God on behalf of the ones you love and know. For you prayer may be as much a part of your life as breathing. Or, you may be a person who struggles with praying. If this is you, take heart! While you may struggle with prayer, while you may find the day has slipped by and you did not stop to pray, take heart! God is always thinking about you!
One of the obvious things we do when we hand down confident faith, is we teach our grandchildren how to be people who pray. We help them learn to pray Scripture, keep a prayer journal, and learn to pray for others, but do we also take time to teach them to watch and be thankful as they pray? If we have taught our grandchildren to pray, we have done something important, but there is still more to teach.

For the past two days I've been writing about helping our grandchildren give at Christmas and helping them receive at Christmas. So, today, on this weekend where we may think about finding great sales and the "perfect" gifts we want to give to those on our gift list, I'd like to encourage you to take time to focus upon giving the gifts which matter the most . . .
How has God worked in your life? How has He shown His great love to you? Take time today to tell the next generation - consider making a "God's Great Deeds Jar". Each day, before you go to bed, write on a piece of paper how God has shown His love to you - big or small ways - in the day you just lived. Put it in the jar. Next year at the start of 2021, take out the slips of paper and enjoy being reminded of how God worked in your life.

For decades (about two and a half) I (Lynda Freeman) have been writing websites/blogs about Children's Ministry. From time to time on my Children's Ministry blog, I share video clips from George Barna - he has so much insight as to what is happening in the world in which we, and the ones we love, live. Today I'd like to share one of his video clips with you. (You will find it at this link.) In this video George talks about the seven major influences in our lives - please take a minute to watch it.
Yesterday I shared my Top 5 Reasons for Focusing our Grandchildren on Giving at Christmas, but today I want to stop to think about the Top 5 Reasons for Focusing our Grandchildren on Receiving at Christmas . . . yes, I said; "receiving"!

While we certainly remember and think about Jesus choosing to come to Earth to save us all throughout the year, this is the time of year when we tend to celebrate it. And, while we are absolutely able to celebrate Christmas with all of our family and friends, whether they are believers and are walking with God or not, if they are, our celebration and joy are greater.
Ah, yes . . . Christmas time is here, or at least we celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday, many of us put up our Christmas trees (partially guilty as charged as our tree is ready for decorations which will be put on it tomorrow when the grandsons arrive) and today people are out - or as this year shows online, shopping for bargains. Christmas time is here and while children are likely to focus upon the gifts they hope to receive . . . as for many children it is their favorite time of year, I believe it is the ideal time to redirect their focus to giving to others! So . . . here are my Top Five Reasons for Focusing Our Grandchildren upon Giving at Christmas . . .
“Christmas time is here. Happiness and cheer. Fun for all that children call, Their favorite time of the year!”

When it comes to handing down confident faith, the words we say matter; but so do the things we do. When our grandchildren experience our love, kindness and gentleness, see us respond with joy, peace, patience, and witness how we behave in a way which is good, faithful and shows self-control, these things speak louder than any words we will ever speak. And, these things will stick with them.

Today, this week, the rest of this year and throughout next year as well, pray and ask God to protect your children's and grandchildren's hearts and minds, so they will love and follow Him with all their heart. I pray this for my children and grandchildren.

In our lifetime we are likely to be blessed with friends and acquaintances who we are able to trust. People who make our lives better just by knowing them. But, it is also likely you will meet and even know people who, over time, prove themselves to be untrustworthy, people who do not do what they say they will do and people who make a special set of rules by which they live. These people often end up disappointing and even hurting us. Our children and grandchildren will experience both types of people throughout their lives as well.

It matters so much for us to be intentional when it come to handing down a heritage of confident faith. What does it look like to be intentional? One thing you are able to do is speak Scripture blessings over your grandchildren when they arrive to/leave your home, over the phone or even email to them. Write your blessing out and give them a copy. Consider using this "paraphrase" of Psalm 92 -

This quote from Michael Youssef puts it pretty clear - "If we fail as adults in praying for and praying with the next generation, then they will become spiritually unsure." This quote really opened my eyes. I do not want my grandsons to become spiritually unsure. I want them to grow up to be young men, then adults who know, love and walk with God.

Whether your grandchildren are involved in a Sunday School at a solid, Bible-believing church, or not, do not depend upon the church to hand confident faith to your grandchildren. This is something we have become more aware of with covid and the closing of so many Children's Ministries and is the "job", and great joy, of the parents and grandparents; not the church.
If we want our grandchildren to grow to be people who read, love and live God's Word, we need to be people who read, love and live God's Word. We need to be sure they see us reading God's Word. We need to be sure they are able to tell by the things we say and the way we live, we love and are serious about living God's Word. When they are able to see theses things, they will be better able to believe us when we tell them there is great value in them reading, loving and living God's Word.

Life is often wonderful, filled with blessings and brings us great joy. It also has times when it is challenging, confusing and even brings sadness. I am so thankful no matter what life brings, I am able to hold firmly to God's promises and this promise is one of my personal favorites!

I know grandmas - and grandpas - who have sons, daughters, in-laws who join them in handing down confident faith to the children they all love. These grandparents are part of a strong team made up of the first and second most influential people in the lives of their grandchildren - the parents and grandparents. When this strong team works and prays together to hand down confident faith, they are able to make a significant impact upon the lives of the children they all love.

It is easy to think about being thankful this time of year; after all, a week from this coming Thursday is Thanksgiving. But while we tend to talk about being thankful, we may end up actually being thankful in a "busy way". By this I mean we may not really stop to think about all of God's many blessings and just give and say the "typical" type of thanks.

A few years ago I involved my three grandsons in making my Christmas cards. The boys helped draw the design on the cover, I wrote the inside greeting and then the boys prayed with me for the people who received our cards. We prayed the coming year would draw the people who received the cards closer to Jesus.
For the past few days I have been sharing with you books and resources which you are able to add to your own "tool kit" of books/ resources which will equip and empower you to hand down confident faith and also make wonderful Christmas gifts which make a difference. All of these books and resources have been written and/or developed by some of our Grandmas with Heart. As you are able to see by scrolling down this page and looking at the right column, there are quite a few excellent books and resources available!

Have you ever noticed when you are thankful, in particular for God's goodness and never-ending love, you are more likely to be walking closely with Him? While we are not able to make our grandchildren walk with God, if we model and teach them to see and be thankful for God's goodness and never-ending love, they are far more likely to make the wise choice to walk with God.
Christmas Gifts Which Make a Difference - Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Grandparents & Parents, Too!
I am happy today to let you know about another excellent book which you may add to your "tool kit" to help you hand down confident faith and give as gifts to the grandparents and parents you know. Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Grandparents & Parents, Too! is written by one of our Grandmas with Heart - Lynda Freeman.
Here on Grandmas with Heart we write a lot about handing down the faith - for an excellent reason as it is what God has called us to do as grandparents and parents. I often hear from grandparents and parents about how they want to hand down confident faith, but just do not know how to do it. This is why we post every day (at least twice) to this blog - to provide free, ideas, information and resources which will equip, encourage and empower you to hand down confident faith.

Handing down confident faith is all about God and putting our children's and grandchildren's best interests over our own. We tell them about who God is, about His great grace and love and we help them learn how they are able to know, love and walk with God. We know life is a gift from God and is given to us so we will use the time we are given to hand down confident faith to the children and grandchildren also given to us by God.
So often we grandparents say we do not know how to hand down confident faith. We are told there are few resources out there to help us, but I am so happy to be able to tell you there are more truly excellent books/ resources than you may know which you could get to add to your own intentional grandparenting/ parenting "tool box". These books and resources will absolutely equip you to be able to hand down confident faith. Many of these excellent books and resources are written/developed by our Grandmas with Heart and make wonderful gifts for you to give to your spouse, grown children, friends, family - anyone on your gift list who wants to know how to hand down confident faith.
Today I'm very happy to share with you another book written by another of our Grandmas with Heart - Sherry Schumann. In her book, Prayers that Stir the Hearts of Grandparents, Sherry provides you with 40 wonderful prayers which you are able to pray for your grandchildren, grown children, yourself and even grandchildren yet unborn.

When you read through the Old Testament, you see how God showed His grace, forgiveness, mighty hand, great faithfulness and love over and over again. He forgave Adam and Eve, walked with Joseph throughout his time in Egypt, protected Moses, so he would be able to lead the people out of Egypt to the land God promised would be their own. He parted the Red Sea, provided food and water while the people wandered in the desert and gave them leaders like Moses and Joshua to get them to a place they would be able to call home. God protected them from people who wanted to harm them - even one time using a donkey which talked.
Today I am very happy to share with you another book written by one of the Grandmas with Heart which makes an excellent addition to your intentional grandparenting "tool box" as well as a great Christmas gift for the parents, grandparents and church leaders you know. Don't Worry; It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren is written by me, Lynda Freeman.
Today I am happy to recommend another book written by one of the Grandmas with Heart for you to consider adding to your own intentional grandparenting resource "tool kit" and for you to give as a gift for Christmas to the ones you love. Today's book, the single parent: confident and successful is written by one of our "Grandmas" - Linda Ranson Jacobs and while it was specifically written for single parents/grandparents, it is filled with wisdom about handing down the faith making the single parent: confident and successful a great gift for any and all parents and grandparents - single or not.

Christmas is just a month and a half away! Have you started your Christmas gift list? I'd like to make a gift recommendation today which will equip you to give the best gift you will ever give to the ones you love . . . a confident faith! The "Life on the Goldilocks Planet" curriculum/book series makes a terrific gift for your grandchildren/ children and for your grown children as well. This unique book series will engage the ones you love - of all ages - as they learn about interesting, unique, strange, and familiar animals. There are fun activities - science projects, crafts, recipes, games - to help everyone think about and remember how these animals show us God is real and why they are able to trust Him with confidence.
When we are committed to be grandmas (and grandpas/parents) who hand down confident faith, we absolutely understand the truth in this quote. We do teach by all means possible, we do remember and hold tightly to the Character of God, and take every opportunity to teach our grandchildren how they are able to know, love, and walk with God, because we know our time is limited; we have more days behind us than there are before us.
