Walk Worthy in 2021

I love this quote from the Kimmels and also find it challenging - I absolutely want my grandsons to be able to trust me to walk worthy of the incredibly sacred calling from God to hand confident faith to them. Handing down confident faith is the thing which matters the most. Take time today to pray for your children and your children's children and plan a way to walk worthy and grandparent on purpose; to hand down confident faith!

Be Memorable & Hand Down Confident Faith

Part of handing down confident faith - a big part of it - is taking the time to build a close relationship with your grandchildren/ children. There are certainly many ways to do this, but one way is by planning opportunities together to just have fun. These fun times together help you build a strong and close relationship as you make memories which will last beyond your own years - and give you natural opportunities to have important faith conversations while you are having fun as well.

God is Not Finished with You

2020 was certainly a year we did not expect, but even so, it may have been a year filled with blessings - time spent with family handing down confident faith to the generations who follow (even virtually) as the most important blessing. It may have been filled with answers to prayer and opportunities to grow in your walk with God - and watch your family do the same.

A New "Normal"

Well, it is almost 2021 . . . but as 2021 begins, and we tend to get back to what we typically consider our "normal" day-in-day-out life, let's commit to a "new normal". One which includes the following . . .

We Are Able to Do What Counts & Makes An Eternal Significance

When one year ends and another begins we often stop to think about the things we accomplished in the year ending as well as the things we want to do in the coming year. While 2020 brought with it unexpected challenges, we still had the opportunity to connect - even from a distance - with the ones we love and to hand down confident faith - particularly by modeling what it looks like to trust God in a frightening situation.

Prayer for the Ones We Love to Find Their Refuge in God

Proverbs 14:26 says; “Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.”

Today, as 2020 comes closer to an end, and as the new year begins - even though we continue to deal with covid,  whenever you think about your grandchildren - and grown children, consider making this your prayer . . .

Take Time to "Ponder" God's Great Works & Blessings

Do you believe it? 2020 is about to become part of the history books. As 2021 begins, it is often easy to become so focused on the things we are planning, and hoping for the year, we forget to take time to thank God for His many blessings - big and small - from 2020 - and even with all the difficult things 2020 brought with it, there are still blessings. So, let's take time to remember the blessings we experienced throughout the past year. Consider the following . . .

Be the Grandma (Grandpa) Who Does Not Underestimate God's Power

I love this quote from Max Lucado and find it to be extremely encouraging. There are people I love for whom I pray, and continue to pray, even when I do not see an answer. I need to be reminded of the truth of how God hears, listens, and has the power and will to answer!

Hand Down Confident Faith with Megabats, Bengal Tigers, Quetzals & More!

I am very happy to let you know the newest addition to the "Life on the Goldilocks Planet" curriculum and book series is available in our bookstore and on Amazon!  Megabats, Bengal Tigers, Quetzals & More! is a multi-purpose book. While it makes an ideal gift for the children you love, it is also a curriculum resource which will equip grandparents and parents as they strive to hand down confident faith.

Have a Purpose & Plan for 2021

2021 is before us and while we do not know what all it holds, you are likely looking at it in the same way I am; I have hope for 2021 to be a year filled with opportunities to hand confident faith to my grandchildren and build solid, wonderful, joy-filled memories with them as well!

God Works it All for Our Good - Romans 8:28

Our lives, and the lives of our children and grandchildren, will be filled with blessings and joy-filled moments. Our lives will also have those times when we do not understand what is happening; times when we are truly filled with grief - as we have experienced in 2020. But, Romans 8:28 gives us a powerful promise from God; one for which I am extremely thankful. He promises everything - all things both blessings and challenges - work together for good.

Happy Day After Christmas

A few years ago Matthew West wrote the song, "Happy Day After Christmas", so today, on the day after Christmas, I thought I'd share the song (at this link), the lyrics, and a few thoughts about continuing to hand down the message to the ones we love of how, "even when Christmas is over, the Light of the World is still here!"

God Has a "Recipe" for Our Lives

Life has many times filled with joy. Times we want to remember. Times where we are very thankful for all we experience. But, life also has times where we do not understand what is happening. Times we may not want to remember. Times where we may not feel very thankful for the things we experience.

This Christmas Believe - Jesus is Truly Real

For those of us who believe in Jesus, Christmas is a time of celebration - a time to remember and be so thankful for the great Gift God gave us in the birth of Jesus. It is the reason we hand down confident faith - because we want our grandchildren (and children) to believe and receive God's Gift of love.

Let Megabats, Bengal Tigers, Quetzals & More! Help You Hand Down Confident Faith

Yes, God must have had a blast creating all the unique and surprising animals with which He filled this Earth! And, while He wants us to believe in Him with faith, He put His "fingerprints" on all He created to help show us the "whys" - why we are able to believe in Him and trust Him with confidence! When we see His fingerprints, we are able to have a confident faith - and we are able to share these truths with the ones we love to help them have a confident faith as well!

Give the Gift of Your TIME

Tomorrow is Christmas Day. For the past couple weeks I have been writing about the best gifts we are able to give to the ones we love, so today I want to write about one more - our T. I. M. E. When we give our TIME to the ones we love, we are giving them a very precious gift.

God IS Near

As you celebrate Christmas this year, keep this truth in mind - "God is near, whether you sense His presence or not."

Be "That" Grandma (Grandpa/Parent)

As our grandchildren grow up we certainly want to give them as many happy things and festivals to be enjoyed as possible. We want to help them make lasting memories which will build our relationship with them and point them to God.

Christmastime is one of these times when we think about these happy things and festivals - our family traditions and often celebrate in ways unique to Christmas.

Give Gifts Which Make A Lasting Difference

As grandmas (and grandpas/ parents) who are serious about handing down confident faith there are several essential and important gifts we will give to the children we love. Of course, the most important is the gift of handing down confident faith by helping them know they are able to believe in God and trust His Word with confidence. Everything else springs from this.

God's Greatest Gift

Christmas is just a couple days away and today is a great time to remember God's greatest gift - Himself!

A Prayer & A Blessing

I originally posted this prayer in the Spring of 2018, but with the new year nearly upon us, I wanted to share it again with you, along with a challenge for us all. It is all too easy for us to become busy with the day-in-day-out living of our lives and forget things we wanted to do to hand down confident faith. So, to help me remember this prayer and to engage my grandsons in making it part of how they talk with God, I made this prayer into a print we have hanging near our table, to remind us to make it our daily prayer.

Give the Best Gifts Ever - Show Self Control

For the past week and a half we have been looking at the best gifts we will ever give to our children and grandchildren - showing the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives and homes. Today we will look at the last part of the Fruit - Self Control.

Keep the Future in Mind

Grandparents are the second most influential people in the lives of their grandchildren, which is why it matters what we say and do with our grandchildren. Keep the future in mind as you pray for and interact with them today . . . and for each day of the rest of your life.

God Has Certainly Been Right Here With Us

As 2020 comes to a close and 2021 is about to begin, it may be easy for us to think we live in an "awful" world. For many, 2020 held loss, uncertainty, fear, isolation, as well as political upheaval. If we focus upon those things, we may feel like the world has become a lonely, awful place.

Give the Best Gifts Ever - Be Gentle

Don't you just love this quote! It is so true and as we apply it to our grandchildren, we are reminded they are gifts from the hand of God. He chose the grandchildren we have to be our grandchildren - and us to be their grandma (or poppa). Since God chose the grandchildren we have there is every reason for us to love them with our all - and to be grandmas who show great gentleness to them.

Pray Your Grandchildren Will Be People Who Pray

Yes, our true grandma (and grandpa/parent) power is prayer, because the One to whom we pray is big enough to hear and answer our prayers. We need to know and hold to this truth, but we also need to be purposeful about communicating this to our grandchildren, because their true "super power" is found in prayer, too!

So, as you go through your Christmas celebrations and look at beginning a new year, consider making the following from Psalms 27:7-14 your prayer for your grandchildren . . .

Give the Best Gifts Ever - Be Faithful

When we think about words which describe God, "faithful" is a word I love, because in a world where all too often people let us down, God is faithful and He NEVER lets us down. The on-line dictionaries give several definitions for the word, "faithfulness", but basically they all carry the idea of how a faithful person does what they say they will do; they are able to be believed and trusted.

Thankful for God's Good & Perfect Gifts - James 1:17

Christmas is just five days away, so today is a great time to stop and think about all the many good and perfect gifts with which God blesses us on a daily basis - not just once a year. Take time to be thankful and share with your family even just a few of the good and perfect gifts with which God has blessed you.

Give the Best Gifts Ever - Give Goodness - Your "Best Part"

How would you define, "goodness"? Perhaps as being good, doing what is right, or showing excellence? These are all ways Dictionary.com defines it, along with . . . "The best part of anything".

Spend Your Time on the Eternal

2020 certainly did not "shape up" as any of us would have imagined a year ago when we thought about 2019 ending and 2020 beginning - we have certainly been able to see what is eternal - and what is not. As this difficult year comes to an end, take time to think about what you want to do with your time in 2021 - think about what is eternal.

Give the Best Gifts Ever - Model Kindness

Of course we all want the children we love to be kind, when they are children and when they are grown. While they are able to learn to be kind from others in their lives, if we as their grandmas (grandpas and parents, too) treat them with kindness throughout their lives, they will learn to treat others in the same way.

A Prayer for True, Real Strength

"Jesus knew He only had to ask His Father for help and thousands of angels would have been there to help Him! Jesus knew He didn’t even need the angels – after all, Jesus made the angels! Jesus knew real strength is not shown by bragging or showing off, but rather by doing what needs to be done for the ones you love! Jesus showed us His great love by showing us what it means to be meek, what it means to have real strength!" (Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Children)

Hand Down Confident Faith

I write a lot about handing down confident faith - there is a reason for this. While it absolutely matters for us to hand down faith, if we do not help the ones we love know "why" they are able to believe, the day very well may come when they decide there are no solid reasons for their faith and then turn away from what they once believed. This has happened, and continues to happen, over and over again in families throughout this country and around the world. Like Josh McDowell says; "Belief is knowing what you believe; conviction is knowing why you believe it." We must hand down confident faith by helping the ones we love know why they believe.

Give the Best Gifts Ever - Give a Patient Response

Patience is another of those words which we know and use, but do we really stop to think about what it means, and more importantly, are we truly patient; especially with the children we love? Dictionary.com describes patience as . . .

Let Christmas Help You Remember

Have you ever wondered how and why the people of Israel could turn their backs on God when He freed them from Egypt, parted the Red Sea, fed them in the desert, provided water for them, fought for them, and personally led them with the cloud and fire? Judges and Psalms 78 tells us there came a generation who forgot God; a generation who did not experience how God worked in their own lives and who were influenced by the culture around them.

just for fun - Interesting Christmas Trivia

With Christmas just ten days away, I thought it would be fun to share a bit of Christmas trivia with you! Did you know . . .

Give the Best Gifts Ever - Give a Home Filled with Peace

"Peace" is a word we tend to see and hear around this time of year; particularly  on Christmas cards and in Christmas carols. Peace is something we all certainly want to experience in our country and world, at Christmas and all year long.

Make the Most of These Gifts

You have the family you have for a reason - God gave them to you. He planned for you to be the person who hands confident faith to your family. They are a gift from God to you. And you are a gift from God to them as well. So, how might you make the most of these gifts? Consider the following . . .

Give the Best Gifts - Give a Home Characterized by Joy

Joy is another of those words which we tend to think about more this time of year, but do we really know what joy is? Dictionary.com defines it as:

Love God & All Others

When Jesus walked this Earth, He was asked what the most important command was for people to follow. He answered -

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

It matters to God if we love Him and others. When we love God and others, we will have no problem following the rest of the commandments - we will not lie, kill, steal, covet, etc. So, what does it look like if we really love God and others? Well, when we love, we grandmas (and grandpas/parents, too) we will . . .

Give the Best Gifts Ever - Give a Love Which is Shown by How You Talk to & Treat the Children You Love

One of the fun parts of Christmas is selecting gifts for the children you love which you know they will enjoy. After all, we grandmas do tend to love to give gifts to our grandchildren!

God Gives Strength - Isaiah 40:31

While this time of year tends to be busier than others, it is not unusual for us to find ourselves busy and tired. But, thankfully, God has promised when we wait on Him, He will give us the strength we need to do what He wants us to do.

Sometimes Handing Down the Faith is Simple - & Fun

When it comes to handing down confident faith to my grandsons, I of course talk with them about why they are able to know God is real and trust His Word with confidence. I help them learn to talk with God and model what it looks like to love, know and walk with God. All important, essential parts of handing down confident faith. But, there are also times where I plan something simple and fun to help them learn to show their faith by showing love and appreciation to others.

Embrace Your Purpose

As you gather with your family in person, over the phone or through some type of tech such as facetime or hangouts, along with thanking God for the people He has placed in your family, take time to see each person as someone who gives your life purpose. See them as people God has lovingly placed, purposefully chosen to put in your life for you to love, hand down the faith and point them to Him. In this season of "gift-giving", our children/in-laws and grandchildren are gifts to us from the hand of God. If this does not bring purpose to our lives, nothing will.

Start a New Tradition & Remember The Reason for Christmas & Resurrection Sunday

Today I want to share with you an idea for something you could use to start a family tradition, help you focus your grandchildren both on why we celebrate Christmas as well as why Jesus came, and provides the opportunity for them to give to others . . . you will need the following items . . .

Do Not Forget

We grandmas (and grandpas/ parents, too) know while our grandchildren may look like their siblings, and may have similar interests, they truly are all unique individuals. I'm sure you agree they certainly bring joy to our lives and we are most blessed to be their grandma (grandpa/parents).

Hand Down Confident Faith with "Mystery Bags" - Candy Cane Hunt

Today I am happy to share with you a post I put up each year - if you have never tried this, definitely consider starting this tradition this year. If you have, enjoy another year with a Candy Cane Hunt!

One of the fun things we grandmas are able to do is to start new family traditions! Today for our "Mystery Bag" idea, I have the info you need to begin a new family tradition which is fun for any age of grandchild, whether they live near or far.

For this "Mystery Bag", you will need the following items . . .

We are Builders

Building a strong, loving and close relationship with your grandchildren matters. It helps them as children, so they grow with a sense of security and value and, as studies show, it helps them as adults, so they are healthier emotionally.
