We grandparents know we are older. We know we may not have the energy we once had. We know we may not be as fit as we once were. But the things which matter the most are, as a friend of mine said the other day, are our faith, our family, and our friends. When we live with what matters in view, we will finish our days making a difference which will last, because God is not done with us.
As I wrote yesterday - "We each have 168 hours each week - how many of those will we use intentionally to hand down confident faith? Let's break it down and find out - if the children you love are school-age, they typically spend about eight hours a day, Monday through Friday, in school - this adds up to 40 hours a week. If they go to church on Sundays and Wednesdays, they are there for another three or so. If they sleep for eight hours a night they do so for another 56 hours a week, leaving 69 hours a week. So, how much of this "open" 69 hours a week are you using to hand down confident faith in an intentional way?"
I went on to share about some of the few resources available to equip grandparents (and parents) so you are able to hand down confident faith in your 69 hours a week (you will find this info at the following link.) This is something we know we are able to do - we are able to hand down confident faith to the children we love.
Today I want to focus on something else we are able to do. We are able to ask the leaders in our church to see how they only have, at best three hours a week to hand down confident faith to the children in their ministries. But, they are able to equip parents and grandparents who have those 69 hours a week open to them when it comes to handing down confident faith. Our churches are able to ask publishers for resources, they are able to share resources with the parents and grandparents in their ministries, and they are able to encourage parents and grandparents to use the resources with the children they love. When churches do this, more parents and grandparents will engage and focus upon handing down confident faith.
There are not currently many resources available, but in our bookstore (at this link), you will find some of the few which are available. Ask your church leaders to engage with parents and grandparents and equip them to hand down confident faith. This is something we know we are able to do and it is something which will make a difference in the lives of the children we love.
