Make the Most of Your 69 Hours a Week

Today being Valentine's Day, is the perfect time to stop and think about handing down confident faith, as this confident faith is grounded in the truth of knowing God loves them. As grandmas - or grandpas or parents - we have the wonderful gift, unique opportunity to influence the ones we love and hand down confident fait to them. We just have to choose to do so.

We each have 168 hours each week - how many of those will we use intentionally to hand down confident faith? Let's break it down and find out - If the children you love are school-age, they typically spend about eight hours a day, Monday through Friday, in school - this adds up to 40 hours a week. If they go to church on Sundays and Wednesdays, they are there for another three or so. If they sleep for eight hours a night they do so for another 56 hours a week, leaving 69 hours a week. So, how much of this "open" 69 hours a week are you using to hand down confident faith in an intentional way?

Clearly, unless you live with your grandchildren, you are not able to use all of these 69 hours, but how much of them are you using? If we are serious about handing down confident faith, we must be intentional about using at least some of those 69 hours. How might we do so? Consider the following . . .

  • Life on the Goldilocks Planet curriculum/book series - with this series you could easily spend at least one or two hours a week learning together how animals show us God's great design and creation, so they are able to know God is real and trust Him with confidence.
  • Praying Deeper series - this series will provide a year of focused prayers for you and your grandchildren to work through together - preschool through middle school age. You could connect over the phone or using tech at least a few times a week to pray through the Psalms together - giving you another hour or two a week.
  • Cultivate the Faith - provides you with 52 Bible adventures, prayer opportunities, and activities to help the children you love develop a confident faith. If you used this resource in person - or using tech - you would easily add another hour or two to your week of handing down confident faith!
  • Generations Quest - you will find it at this link - this tool will provide you a year's worth of daily Bible readings, prayers and activities you may use with the children you love to learn about God, His Word, and how we are able to know and walk with Him. If you used this resource you would add another hour or two to your week of intentionally handing down confident faith!

We parents and grandparents need to to hand down confident faith in the 69 hours available to us to influence the ones we love each week. If you used these resources you would spend four to eight hours a week handing down confident faith - is there a better use of your time?

Please keep in mind, while you are able to learn about and find resources to help you hand down confident faith here on Grandmas with Heart, it is the job of your church to equip parents and grandparents and to encourage you to hand down confident faith to the children you love. Please share the information in this post with the leaders of your church. If church leaders started asking for resources they could use to equip their parents and grandparents, more publishers would provide them - and this is a fantastic thing!

It is time we commit to make the most of our 69 hours a week - what will you do to do this?
